LETTER: Rocks being thrown at motorhomes has to stop

Dear Editor-

There is someone driving around beach drive/alki throwing rocks, bottles and eggs at occupied motorhomes threatening the well being of those inside, those assaultive persons do not deserve to be free, prisons are for people who disregard human life and safety...

i appeal to you, west seattle herald to ask these people to stop before a serious injury occurs, this has happened numerous times and a county pickup truck blares his horn in harassment all hours of night..

Polar Bear Plunge at Golden Gardens was fast, funny and fun

Ballard‘s 8th Annual New Year’s Day Polar Bear Plunge saw hundreds show up at Golden Gardens Park for the 8th Annual rinsing off the previous year and getting a memorable start to 2017.

With no official starter, the tech savvy crowd, many carrying apparently water proof smart phones and GoPro action cameras began the brief but bracing dash into Shilshole Bay at precisely 11am.

Almost before it began, it was over and then it was time for the frigid friends to gather around a series of roaring fires, of now dried and primed former Christmas Trees.

Bare chested men, and towel clad ladies took some comfort in the rush of heat but then as soon as possible got back into their clothes and it was over for another year.

Polar Bear Plunge for 2017 sees snow on the beach and hundreds taking a dip

Well over an estimated 600 people showed up at Alki Beach on Jan. 1 for the annual Polar Bear Plunge. Braving an outdoor air temperature of 32 degrees (with snow on the beach at places), the polar plungers stood by in towels and blankets preparing for the cold dip.

Organizer Mark Ufkes, offered gratitude to his wife for the past year and for the world hoped that everyone would work harder to get along.

Precisely at 10am, the countdown began, somewhat organically as people with apparently waterproof smartphones announced the start of the ten second countdown.

The time spent in the 45 degree water was less important than the fact that they met the challenge though many of instantly frigid folks did take advantage of the free and hot clam chowder provided by Duke's Chowder House.

It's a short event, often lasting less than 30 seconds but some brave souls took more time, diving in and giving the old year a complete rinse out and the new year a cool start.

Space Needle New year show was bright and beautiful

The annual New Years Fireworks show at the Space Needle was typically spectacular for the opening minutes of 2017.

Sponsored by T-Mobile the show was extended by ten minutes this year, as an estimated 20,000 people gathered near the Seattle Center and tens of thousands more watched from around the area.

A small fire atop the Needle was quickly dealt with but produced a lot of smoke,
