UPDATE: Grunge icon former West Seattle resident Chris Cornell dead at 52; Death ruled a suicide

UPDATE 11:45am
The Associated Press reports that the medical examiner has determined Soundgarden singer Chris Cornell committed suicide by hanging in Detroit.

Original Post
Chris Cornell, whose grunge rock icon status grew out of Seattle and West Seattle where he lived for years has died. He was 52 years old. The cause of his death is not known at this time but according to press sources suicide is suspected.

He had been on tour with Soundgarden, the band that propelled him to fame and performed with the band Wednesday night in Detroit according to his representative Brian Bumbery in a statement to the Associated Press.

Bumbery called the death "sudden and unexpected" and said his wife and family were shocked by it. The statement said the family would be working closely with the medical examiner to determine the cause and asked for privacy. Police were called to the MGM Grand Hotel in Detroit at midnight in response to an emergency call from one of Cornell's associates. Press reports claim that upon entry to the bathroom Cornell was found unresponsive and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Former Sergeant with sustained finding of dishonesty sues King County Sheriff's office

Information from King County Sheriff
A former sergeant in the King County Sheriff’s Office has hired the Jack Connelly Law Firm in Tacoma to represent her in a discrimination and retaliation lawsuit against the Sheriff’s Office. Sergeant Andrea Alexander was terminated for dishonesty in November of 2013 after she knowingly accepted over nine months of specialty pay for which she was not entitled. In 2013 she was removed from that post by Major Jerrell Wills (who is African American) and thus ineligible for the special pay.

According to the lawsuit filed by Alexander’s lawyer, Julie Kays, then Captain Shawn Ledford and Major Wills removed Alexander from the Patrol Training Officer (PTO) program for disciplinary reasons in a 2013 meeting. The lawsuit contends that “Alexander in that moment knew she was being treated differently than her peers because she is a woman, gay, and African American.” At no time during the internal investigation, Loudermill, or arbitration proceedings, had Alexander ever raise charges of discrimination or retaliation, nor did her labor representatives, the King County Police Officers Guild.

Final traffic study on Fauntleroy Blvd. Project released: Project will start in December and be completed in 2019

The Seattle Department of Transportation and the Fauntleroy SW Boulevard Project posted their final Traffic Analysis Report prepared by subcontractor DKS on May 12 in an update and it concludes that the proposed bike lanes will have little impact on signal operations, Signal timing changes at intersections along Fauntleroy Way SW and 35th Avenue SW are required to accommodate growth, The proposed additional marked crosswalks across Fauntleroy Way SW at SW Avalon Way and at SW Oregon Street are not recommended, traffic through the corridor will be "acceptable" through the year 2044, and pedestrian and bicycle volumes were assumed to double and triple respectively through 2044.

From the Summary of the report:

The proposed project will construct landscaped center medians, realigned intersections, improved street lighting, protected bike facilities and improved pedestrian facilities with defined sidewalks and new crossings of Fauntleroy Way SW.

Metro partners with Des Moines and Normandy Park to pilot new transportation solutions

information from King County Metro

King County Metro has partnered with the Cities of Des Moines and Normandy Park to pilot new transportation services for commuters and residents as the area experiences an influx of new employers. As a first step, Metro wants to hear from area workers through an online survey about their transportation needs. The survey will help shape pilot services through Metro’s http://kingcounty.gov/depts/transportation/metro/programs-projects/comm… program, an innovative collaboration with local government and community partners.

Community Connections, previously known as the Alternative Services Demonstration Program, focuses on cost-efficient solutions in areas that don’t have the infrastructure, density, or land use to support regular, fixed-route bus service. Services could include routes with flexible service areas, real-time ridesharing between home neighborhoods and transit centers, reservation-based local trips, and ridematching.
