information from Port of Seattle

The Port of Seattle, City of SeaTac, and IAC Properties (IAC) broke ground today on a 26-acre underdeveloped property to create a 460,000 square foot industrial facility that will employ approximately 400 full time workers. Tenants may include food processors, manufacturers, and logistics providers that support the aviation and air cargo industries.

“When fully developed, the IAC Commerce Center — SeaTac project in the City of SeaTac will be home to around 400 full-time employees with an estimated payroll of more than $28 million annually,” said Port of Seattle Executive Director Steve Metruck. “This is a major milestone in our partnership with local communities to develop economic activity and new local jobs, including up to 90 prevailing wage construction jobs during the build out of the property.”

City Council’s HALA upzoning West Seattle hearing draws passion from both sides

By Gwen Davis

West Seattle held its first public hearing for the HALA (Housing Affordability and Livability Agenda) and MHA program (Mandatory Housing Affordability) on Tuesday night. Taking place at Chief Seatlh International High School, the event allowed over 50 community members to offer public testimony both for and against the proposals, with around 150 people in attendance.

About HALA and MHA

In the next 10 years, HALA’s goal is to have 30,000 new market-rate homes, and 20,000 affordable homes. "Affordable units" are housing that cost no more than around $1,000 per month. The city plans to do this through upzoning parts of the city, and mandating that developers contribute to solving the housing shortage, either by building affordable units themselves or by paying the city.

West Seattle Eagles getting a minor facelift; New siding and paint

The building is getting a minor facelift with new siding going up right now. Once the caulking has cured, a new paint will be applied. What color? Not the same one said, current Eagles President John Ledeman. "Something that is appropriate for the Junction and sets us apart from the Post Office," he explained.

There are no structural changes planned for the interior at this time but the club is alway making some kind of improvements.

The West Seattle Eagles has been a part of the community since 1947 and many people don't know a lot about them.

Their motto is "We are People Helping People."

Their website explains:

"Simply, we change lives for the better. Over the years, our members have contributed millions of dollars to medical centers and causes ranging from diabetes to cancer. We help troubled youth, support the elderly, and uplift the less fortunate.
