Ballard’s electric bike destination, Electric and Folding Bikes Northwest

By Lindsay Peyton

Most mornings, David “DJ” Johnson can be found riding his electric bike to work. He travels the 13 miles trek in about 45 minutes and says it’s often the best part of his day.

“It’s meditative, just being able to ride and embrace the day,” he said.

And biking home is an ideal way to decompress. “After a long day at work and a long ride home, I still have energy to help with the dishes,’” he said.

That’s because the electric bike gives him a boost when he wants one, making the ride less exhausting. Riders still pedal, Johnson explains, but the motor augments the effort, making Seattle’s hills less daunting.

Commuting on his electric bike has been a game-changer, Johnson said. He’s been hooked on the mode of transportation since he started working at Electric and Folding Bikes Northwest, 4810 17th Ave NW in Ballard, in 2009.

Happy Fathers Day

By Ken Robinson

Managing Editor

This tribute was written on last Sunday’s sunny Father’s Day. Outside my home office window there is a yellow rose given to me by my older brother when our father died. The flowers it offers in spring are a living reminder of a great dad.

As one of five sons of Gerald and Lee Robinson, my memories are of a lucky and loving childhood.  I always wonder how Dad did what he did while growing his business as a newspaperman. He took us fishing in lakes and streams and in Elliott Bay and at Neah Bay and Sekiu and many of the state’s big rivers. And sometimes the summer, he would leave his office early and take us to places like Lake Wilderness to swim.

C & P Coffee says thank you; Beloved coffee house throws a party for supporters

It wasn't advertised on social media. Maybe because the people in West Seattle who love C & P Coffee were already a family of sorts and shared the invitation to the big "thank you" party thrown by Cameron and Pete Moores to express their gratitude.

On Sunday June 17, hundreds came to get their free beverages and tacos from Marination Mobile and enjoy cake and cupcakes from Baked Bakery, hear great music, so typical of the place and just hang out with each other.

Stealing the cow was a prank but it wasn't funny; Owners seek culprits and restoration

Westside Seattle reported the theft of the cow from the top of what is being made into the Best of Hand Barrelhouse at the corner of 35th and SW Webster on Friday, June 15. We were told by students we encountered that it was one of several "senior pranks" that day. But in the process the landmark artifact was damaged and the owners are understandably unhappy about it. They sent us this letter to seek those responsible and are asking them to come forward and pay for the damages done.
