Call for Applicants for Washington State Department of Commerce Sea-Tac Airport Study Advisory Committee (SSAC)

In 2018, the Washington State Legislature committed funds to conduct a study of the current impacts and benefits of the Sea-Tac International Airport on the surrounding communities. The Department of Commerce has been assigned responsibility to conduct this Study. Further, Commerce is to work in consultation with the cities of Burien, Des Moines, Federal Way, Normandy Park, SeaTac and Tukwila, Port of Seattle and surrounding communities on this Study. Commerce is requesting each City select a public representative for the SSAC.

Appointed SSAC participants will be able to share information, discuss community concerns and provide input on developing the “statement of work” to be included in the Study of current impacts and benefits.

White Center CDA Gala is set for Sept. 28

The White Center Community Development Association WCCDA Fundraising Gala theme is “Celebrating All Voices”  honoring the power of community and strength of White Center. The event will be at the venue WithinSodo, in Sodo district on Sept 28 from 6 to 9pm

W. Tali Hairston, Equitable Development Principal – Owner will keynote the event. As a native of Seattle, he will share his personal experiences regarding how communities of color continue to be silenced and how this process continues to perpetuate racism in all its forms.

He will speak to how we can work together as a collective to keep each other safe and help communities thrive by building trusting relationships and ensuring racial equity as part of that process.

Admiral District Halloween Trick or Treat is back for kids big and little Oct. 31

Yes on Wednesday 10/31/18 (Halloween) the Admiral District Merchants will be out in force handing out candy for kids of all ages (costumes are sort of required) this year from 3-6pm. Look for merchants out on the street if the weather is good or just inside where you will find a wide array of sweet treats.

UPDATE: Woman dies in drive by shooting in Burien; Two teenage suspects arrested

Update 12:49pm

Late last night, 9/19/2018 with information obtained by Detectives through interviews they were able to identify the suspect’s vehicle which they located at the 12200 BLK Ambaum BLVD SW, 2 suspects were arrested as they were leaving the residence.  Both arrested suspects age 17, are known members of the UL (United Lakotes) Sureno street gang.
