Comedy-drama 'Visiting Cezanne' at Burien Actors Theatre takes inspiring look at what keeps us going when all seems lost

information from Burien Actors Theater

Burien Actors Theatre’s (“BAT”) production of the comedy-drama Visiting Cezanne is a funny and inspiring look at artists--and how we find our way, and ourselves, when all seems lost.

Performances of this new play, which premiered in 2018, runs Feb. 15 through March 10.

The Burien Actors Theatre production, written by Duane Kelly, features specialty drinks themed to the show and plenty of free on-site parking, plus BAT’s famous opening night party.

“VISITNG CEZANNE”

The magic in a paintbrush whisks unknown painter Nora Baker from 2016 New York back to 1900 France and the studio of Paul Cezanne. Nora, Cezanne and the play's other characters explore what keeps an artist, or any of us, going when it all seems hopeless. Will this magical meeting change history? Heart and humor infuse this clever look at finding ourselves and our purpose.

Goodbye Viaduct, Hello Tunnel

By Jean Godden

Groundhog Day is my least celebrated holiday. That is, it was until this year. On Feb. 2, not only did Punxsutawney Phil, the far-sighted rodent, make a prediction, but so did ten speakers at the festive SR 99 Tunnel ribbon cutting. They confirmed Seattle at last is taking a "step forward," reclaiming its waterfront.

The official ribbon cutting was part of a weekend-long observance. More than 100 thousand surged through downtown Saturday. Twenty-nine thousand runners took part in an 8K run/walk that routed them through the luminous new tunnel, while another 70,000 later lined up to walk the tunnel.

That was the Saturday scene. On Sunday, 12,000 bicyclists rode through both tunnel lanes and over the viaduct, ending at the Space Needle.

information from King County Metro

Riders should be prepared for crowding and potentially longer waits at bus stops on Monday and Tuesday as Metro operates on the Emergency Snow Network, which reduces service to 60 high-ridership routes to maintain reliability. Facing unpredictable weather conditions and travel delays, Metro encourages commuters across the region to allow for another 30-60 minutes in their travel schedules and prepare alternate travel plans if their route is not in service, and connect to Link light rail service where possible.

HERBOLD: The future of Camp Second Chance

Information from District 1 City Councilmember Lisa Herbold

Many people have been contacting me about the future of Camp Second Chance at Myers Way.

As you may recall, in December of 2016, the Mayor announced that Camp Second Chance would be one of the city’s six sanctioned encampments. The encampment occupants have worked to make the Myers Way location safe and ensure that it is a good neighbor to the surrounding community. Camp Second Chance has grown to become a place for security and community – moving many people on to get permanent housing.
