Lady Jaye restaurant and smokehouse bar opens Sept. 18 in West Seattle Junction

The new Lady Jaye restaurant, smokehouse and bar opens Sept.18 at 4523 Calfornia Ave SW. The menu is eclectic and unique in the area. It's family friendly too.

The design aesthetic in the new spot is a little bit country with wood (literally cut firewood) as part of the decor and a celebration of The Highwaymen a former country supergroup made up of Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, and Kris Kristofferson. represented both inside in photos and outside in a nod to Mt. Rushmore in a large mural done by @nakmatter.

Body of Mt. Rainier High student Juan Carlos Guzman pulled from Green River
The death is being investigated as a homicide

The King County Sheriff's office said they have identified the body pulled from the Green River earlier this week as Mt. Rainier High School student Juan Carlos Guzman.

They stated that his body was found Tuesday along Auburn Black Diamond Road near Big Soos Creek and that the death is being investigated as a homocide. The Sheriff’s Office said two fishermen visiting the Green River in Auburn were walking by and noticed a body.

The cause of death was from multiple injuries.King County Public Information Officer Sgt. Ryan Abbott said Juan Carlos’ father had filed a missing child report before his body was discovered.

The King County Sheriff’s Office is is seeking information from the public  that might help lead to an arrest. Detectives asked people to contact them if they saw anything suspicious on or near Green Valley Road on Monday or Tuesday. Investigators encouraged people to call them at 206-296-3311.

South Seattle College welcomed the incoming class of Seattle Promise Program scholars on Sept. 11, 2019 with a two-day “Summer Bridge” orientation to help the recent high school graduates prepare for the transition to higher education.  Seattle Promise provides up to two years of tuition coverage and the personal guidance students need to succeed in college.

King County announces grant program for White Center grants to reduce waste, improve community health; preproposal meeting Sept. 26

King County will host a preproposal meeting to answer questions about its Zero Waste Grant on Thursday, Sept. 26. Up to $40,800 in grant funding is available for community-driven projects to help businesses and residents in unincorporated White Center cut down on waste, reduce exposure to toxic materials, and increase recycling.
