PCC Community Market reopens in West Seattle in new store Oct. 2

PCC Community Markets (PCC), one of Seattle’s original grocers and the largest community-owned food market in the U.S., announced today that their West Seattle store will reopen on Wednesday, October 2 on the same site as the original location at 2749 California Ave. S.W. The 24,000-square-foot store is nearly twice the size of the previous space and features an array of new offerings, like an expanded produce department, PCC’s largest bulk selection, an outdoor patio, café, taqueria, pizzeria, self-serve grain bowls, and more.

Whole Foods Market will open its new 45,000 square-foot West Seattle store, located at 4755 Fauntleroy Way SW in The Whittaker Apartment Complex, at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, October 9. Opening day celebrations will include music and complimentary samples from local vendors before the store opens. The first 300 customers will receive a Whole Foods Market West Seattle reusable canvas tote bag including snacks, swag and a savings card with a mystery value ranging between $5 and $100.

In-custody death at King County Sheriff's Southwest Precinct

This morning, the King County Sheriff’s Office TAC-30 SWAT team arrested a 49 year old male for trafficking of stolen property. The Seattle man was placed in a holding cell at the Southwest Precinct until he could be interviewed by detectives. During a routine cell check, detectives discovered the man was not breathing. Detectives attempted extensive life saving measures, along with King County Medics, but were unable to revive him.

UPDATE: Thunderstorm knocks out power; Now restored for all but a handful
Update Tuesday 12:30pm
The power outage from the storm last Saturday night proved to be difficult to completely resolve. Thousands remained without electricity well into Monday and now only those in the Fentonwood neighborhood on 116th Pl. SW, a street of 13 homes is still without power.
Update 11:50am Monday
The power outages caused by the Saturday evening lightning strikes were persisting into Monday for as many as 424 customers. 33 along Chilberg Ave SW near Beach Drive in West Seattle were out and not expected to get it back until 6pm.Near 106th and Seola Beach 10 more were out due to equipment failure. In Burien 3 homes were still out along Maplewild Drive SW on the way to Three Tree Point. 14 homes were out along NW 83rd Street just north of Ballard with no fix expected until nearly 9pm.
