Don’t miss Nov. 9 official Grand Opening of BAT’S "BALL"

Burien Actors Lending Library

Celebrate the official Grand Opening of BAT’s BALL (Burien Actors Lending Library), a library of more than 1,200 play scripts and theater-related books, on Saturday, Nov. 9.

From 2 to 5 p.m. at Phoenix Tea, the Grand Opening includes a formal ribbon cutting with a Burien City Council member, plus food, drink and great conversation.

Chat with BALL’s librarian and others from Burien Actors Theatre, the nonprofit theater company that put this library together to share with the public. Peruse BALL’s offerings, and explore the tea shop, which also includes an art gallery.

There is no charge to check out a book or script from BALL. Just check out your selection at the cash register. When done, return the book or script to BALL for the next person to borrow. Or sit and read in a cozy spot at Phoenix Tea while enjoying a cup of tea.

Phoenix Tea, whose owners really know their tea, is located in downtown Burien at 447 S.W. 152nd St.

Southwest Seattle Historical Society Gala Brunch raises money and music history awareness

The Southwest Seattle Historical Society Gala Champagne Brunch on Nov. 2 raised money through the auction of unique items and donations but also raised the awareness of many musical touchstones found on the West Seattle peninsula and greater Seattle.

Easy Street Records owner Matt Vaughan was the featured speaker and he, with the help of Live Oak Audio and well known radio personality John Maynard took the capacity audience at Salty's on Alki through just some of the remarkable music stars and recordings that were made here.

The auction was led by Fred Northup who urged bidders to raise their bids on items as diverse as a private movie night at C&P Coffee, a Name Your Own personalized ice cream flavor at Husky Deli (two were actually sold), and a very rare poster of Pearl Jam (and West Seattle resident) Eddie Vedder's first show at Kenyon Hall (complete with a guitar pick). That poster sold for a remarkable $5000 to West Seattle's Chris Richardson.
