SPD SW Precinct has a limited number of FREE anti-theft "clubs"

Jennifer Danner, Seattle Police Southwest Precinct Crime Prevention Coordinator shared that the department is once again offering FREE anti-theft CLUBS on a first come first given basis. 

"In an effort to decrease auto theft incidents, the SW Precinct once again has free steering wheel clubs to give away to our West Seattle and South Park residents!

We have 81 clubs at this time, and we will be giving them out on a first come, first serve basis.

Developers seeking feedback on 86 unit apartment building proposed for Market Street in Ballard

The developers of a proposed 5 story apartment building with 86 SEDU units and no vehicular parking at 1140 NW Market Street in Ballard are reaching out for community input. The KFC restaurant on the site would be demolished.

UPDATE: Male shot to death near White Center

UPDATE 9:11 Thursday

The King County Sheriff's office provided more details in the shooting in White Center on Wednesday May 6 that resulted in the death of a 20 year old male.

They said, "5:20 PM a deputy was in the area of SW 107 near the 1400 BLK on an unrelated call when he heard multiple gun shots.  As he came around the corner on 14 AVE SW he saw a male running away from the scene and a second male lying on the ground.  He lost site of the suspect and put out the last known direction of travel and began life saving measures on the victim.  Medic 1 arrived on scene and continued life saving measures but the victim died at the scene, a 20 year old male.  Witness's stated the suspect fled in a vehicle unknown description.  Major Crimes is on scene investigating."

20 miles of Stay Healthy Streets to become permanent bike and pedestrian only

34th SW in Highpoint is the West Seattle designated Stay Healthy street; All regional parks will now close at 8pm

Mayor Jenny A. Durkan announced today that at least 20 miles of Stay Healthy Streets will become permanent and the construction of bike infrastructure will be accelerated in 2020. In addition, 3 more miles of Stay Healthy Streets will be added in Rainier Valley and 1/3 mile of Beach Drive SW in Alki this weekend. The Mayor also announced that all Regional Parks will now be closing at 8 p.m. to ensure residents do not gather and create a public health risk.

Second shooting in White Center in less than 24 hours sends another male to hospital

King County Sheriff's deputies were on the  scene of another shooting in White Center, the second one in less than 24 hours.  This one took place around 1am in the10600 block of 16 Ave SW,  The male victim was transported by medics in stable condition to Harborview Medical Center. 

Around 5:45pm on Wednesday  a 20 year old male was shot near 107th and 14th SW near Mt. View Elementary School. He died at the scene. That is roughly two blocks away from the second shooting.

There was no suspect information, and no indication the two shootings were related.

Highland Park Action Coalition gets a response from SDOT on request for traffic mitigation plan

HPAC received this follow up response on the questions posed during our 4/22/2020 meeting and our follow up letter sent on 5/4/2020 from SDOT. We have received several other areas of concerns and needs from neighbors and HPAC will be sending a follow up letter with those additional requests. Restricted pre-mixed cocktails are now allowed for curbside pick-up or delivery During COVID-19 Stay Home – Stay Healthy Order.

In addition to the current delivery allowances, effective immediately, restaurants with a Spirits, Beer, and Wine (S/B/W) license issued by the Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board (WSLCB) may sell pre-mixed alcoholic drinks (“cocktails”) for consumption off the licensed premises during the COVID-19 Stay Home – Stay Healthy Order (No. 20-25).
