Happy Mother's Day Mom - I miss you

By Patrick Robinson

My mom was an artist of course. She taught herself to paint (she took some “correspondence courses” back in the day and had some large figure drawing books for reference. It was cool.

She would draw and paint and write and play piano and sing. She was quite gifted at all of them.

And again.. completely self taught.

She suffered from what we now call bi-polar disorder but back then, it was just called the blues.

I recall many late afternoons when my father was away at work, she would play sad music on the piano, the melodies drifting up through the house expressing her personal anguish.

She had a right to it of course.

Caldwell and and Burns named as Kennedy Basketball coaches

Recently named athletic director Don Hoffman made official his first two head coaching hires, naming Greg Caldwell  and Willy Burns the next head coaches of the boys and girls basketball programs, respectively.

Greg Caldwell takes over the boys program following Hoffman’s recent decision to step down from the position. Caldwell spent the past eight seasons as the head girls coach, compiling a 92-91 record during that time, but was anxious to return to the same boys sideline where he served as an assistant to Hoffman prior to accepting the girls job in 2012.

“It was a very difficult decision to step away from the girls program,” Caldwell shared. “I am excited about what we were building there, but I felt that I could not pass up this opportunity. I am eager to get back over to the boys side and continue and grow the great culture that Don has established for this program.”

New $10,000 match now added by Verity Credit Union

information from West Seattle Junction Association

In times of solidarity, joyful or mournful, we often look up to see our emotions reflected in the Space Needle in larger-than-life beacons of city pride, seasonal festivities or national reverence. In late March, Major Jenny Durkan raised our latest flag – #WeGotThisSeattle –  as a hopeful rallying cry to stand strong and healthy in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic and resulting stay-at-home order.

Fall zone, street closure maps now set

information from Seattle Department of Transportation

by Sara Davis on May 4, 2020

The West Seattle High-Rise Bridge remains stable, and the growth of cracks has slowed since we removed traffic on March 23.

This is, however, an evolving situation. With safety as our number one priority, and out of an abundance of caution, we want everyone to be prepared. We’ve created an emergency response plan that we would like to share with you.
