West Seattle Bridge can be repaired but SDOT has not yet reached their decision

Traffic mitigation plan is neighborhood focused and will use racial equity lens

The second meeting of the West Seattle Bridge Task Force revealed some new information on June 17. First, Matt Donahue, Seattle's primary bridge engineer revealed that hairline cracks continue to form on the bridge, even with no live load. Donahue said, "We can fix the bridge but the question is, should we? A cost benefit analysis on that question will be done by this fall." The decision will come later. If they do, it could open in 2022 but might only offer limited service, meaning fewer lanes.

Crack width and crack slippage are being monitored and if certain thresholds are reached regarding speed of change of amount of change key team members are immediately notified. Donahue said his team and others would call 911 in the event of catastrophic failure but for now that's still not likely.

Most of those responding are from Washington State with a sprinkling from New York, Oregon, California, and one from the Tunnel building experts in the Netherlands TEC-tunnel. WSP, SDOT's current consultant also responded.

The RFQ was modified with an addendum after interest in a potential Immersed Tube Tunnel grew following the publishing of the concept by WestsideSeattle. Other media outlets and Councilmember Lisa Herbold asked if it was possible and SDOT made the change.

information from King County

King County Executive Dow Constantine and King County Council Chair Claudia Balducci submitted an application to the state Department of Health to move King County to Phase 2 of the Safe Start recovery plan following approval of the plan by the King County Board of Health.

“After two weeks in what has been called Phase 1.5, our case counts, health care system capacity and other metrics are holding steady, and we are ready to move to Phase 2,” said Executive Constantine. “But make no mistake – successful economic recovery will depend on everyone in King County carefully following the recommendations of our Public Health experts, including wearing face coverings and avoiding unnecessary contacts, so together we can keep re-opening our community while holding the line on the pandemic.”

Do we really need illegal fireworks for the 4th?

July 4th !!

Yes, let’s celebrate- but do you really need to light up the sky with illegal Fireworks!

Here’s a view from a couple of neighbors who would greatly appreciate removing illegal fireworks from our neighborhood.

Typically, it starts at the beginning of June when a random firework is shot off.  Dogs across the neighborhood start barking.  I know you think you’re celebrating our American freedom, but it’s loud obnoxious, and detrimental to our hearing, our pets, and our veterans.
