First night of early Alki beach closure without incident

The first night of early Alki Beach closures was a breeze. The lower temperatures, of around 60 degrees probably helped. The closures were announced to begin at 8pm until 11pm (when the beach was already closed previously) but the cooperative team of SPD and Seattle Parks did not begin the process of asking people to leave until around 9:15pm. There were no incidents.

The announcement on Wednesday said that three officers would be paid for out of the Seattle Parks Department budget. They had back up. Four SUVS and a SPD pickup towing a small two person ATV were brought in.

Cost benefit analysis on repair/replace of West Seattle Bridge discussed in Task Force meeting

Reconnect West Seattle ballots are in and the plans are being formulated regarding traffic mitigation

The sixth in the series of West Seattle Bridge Community Task Force (CTF) meetings took place Wednesday, Aug. 5 and as the short term repairs are continuing the focus is shifting more to the low bridge policies and traffic mitigation around the area.

SDOT offered a policy update for the low bridge noting that emergency vehicle response remains a top priority with enforcement  on the new placards during peak periods. Those placards, a temporary measure until automated enforcement starts this fall, are being issued for display in the rear window. All vehicles are  allowed on the bridge from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., seven days a week. But  from 5am to 9pm it is now limited to

• School buses

• 75 Maritime/industrial users proximate to Harbor Island

• 22 Employer shuttles

• 8 Vanpools of essential workers

• 113 ILWU

Alki Beach and Don Armeni Boat Launch to be closed at night Thursdays through Sundays

The rowdy crowds, and overflowing garbage that have seemingly taken over both Alki Beach and the Don Armeni Boat Launch are getting relief. The Seattle Police Department has just shared this announcement:

Parks Department has generously agreed to fund a three-officer detail to support Parks staff in closing Alki Beach and the Don Armeni Boat Ramp at night, starting tomorrow (Thursday), August 6th. The officers will work three hours, from 8-11 pm, every Thursday through Sunday night for the remainder of the summer, until Sunday, September 27th.

We hope that this partnership between SPD and Parks will address some of the issues neighbors have been experiencing with noise, fires, alcohol use, and other parks violations at Alki and Don Armeni.

If you would like to call attention to specific violations that you observe, please call 911 for emergencies or 206-625-5011 for all other issues.
