Camp Second Chance is hoping you'll help with some needed items

Southwest Seattle's Tiny House village, Camp Second Chance is a clean, drug free and safe place to live for people in transition from homelessness to housing. They've taken very stringent measures to prevent Covid-19 from spreading by stopping any and all visits by outsiders to the site too.

But like other organizations seeking help, especially as the temperatures drop and the weather worsens, they have some specific things they are hoping to get assistance with.

Here's their wish list.

Bottled water (this is an every day need)

West Seattle icon Dick Barnecut has passed away

West Seattle icon Richard "Dick" Barnecut has died.

Known for his decades of West Seattle community participation he was 94 years old. His son, Jim, recalled some of what made his father such a beloved figure. "He was part of the greatest generation," he said, "and he was very loyal to West Seattle," often appearing at events at West Seattle High School plus sponsoring teams, or making contributions. "The thing about my Dad that I'd want say is that and he expressed this frequently was a deep and sincere sense of gratitude. He was just very thankful for his many blessings" Jim said.

"He would say that all the time saying, 'Man this is about as good as it gets.' he was a dyed in the wool West Seattle booster."

"I've been talking with my siblings and we all figure we were super lucky to have the parents we did. That's a great advantage in life is to have people that have your back. Any of my shortcomings could never be laid at the feet of my parents."

Covid-19 shutters West Seattle Food Bank; Positive test on Nov.12 leads to temporary closure

infornation from the West Seattle Food Bank

The West Seattle Food Bank will be closed for distribution today, Thursday, November 12. Last night we learned that a helper at the Food Bank tested positive for COVID-19. We’re not too concerned about exposure as all were wearing masks, socially distanced, and outside most of the time, but we do want to make sure we follow all protocols and keep everyone safe.

We will keep you all posted as we determine our operating status moving forward. Anyone needing food today can call 211 for additional resources.

We thank you all for your support and are truly sorry for any inconvenience this will cause anyone in the community. We will work diligently to reopen as quickly as possible.
