Arrest made in White Center vandalism; 11 arrests since 2017, suspect released

The suspect in the string of costly window smash vandalism incidents has been arrested as a person of interest suspected of burglary and was then subsequently conditionally released. This is according to one of the victims Donna Chan, owner of Macadon's on 16th SW and the King County Jail Inmate Lookup Service.

The King County Prosecutor's office said:

  • The first appearance document was sent from the King County Sheriff’s Office to us the morning of May 19 for a first appearance hearing later that afternoon. He did not appear that day, but probable cause was found by a judge.
  • We argued in court the following day that he would likely fail to appear if released because he had seven warrants since 2018. We asked that he be held on $5,000 bail.
  • He was released by a judge May 20 on his personal recognizance.

Kraemer North America named as primary contractor for remaining West Seattle Bridge repairs

The winning contractor to construct final repairs for the West Seattle High-Rise Bridge and Spokane St Swing Bridge will be Kraemer North America.  Kraemer had the best-scoring proposal based on technical merit, total price, and interview.

The high rise bridge has been closed since March 2020, and an extended process was undertaken to determine whether to repair or replace the damaged 36 year old structure.

When Mayor Durkan chose the repair option roughly 30% of the work to stabilize the bridge had been done by a design and construction team that included Kraemer NA. Epoxy had been injected into cracks, external (but inside the girders) post tensioned steel cabling had been installed, the girders had been wrapped with carbon fiber reinforced polymer and the damaged bearing at Pier 18 had been released.
