Sportswatch: Sporting events worth keeping an eye on

Boys basketball

Kennedy Catholic hosts Mount Rainier for a 7:30 p.m. Wednesday game and Chief Sealth hosts Roosevelt at 6:30 p.m. Friday.

Mount Rainier entertains Puyallup at 7 p.m. Friday as Foster goes to Kentlake and at 8:15 p.m. Evergreen hosts Lindbergh as Highline travels to Sammamish.

West Seattle visits Eastside Catholic at 8:30 p.m. with Ballard travelling to Lakeside.

At 8:30 p.m. Saturday it's Skyline at West Seattle and Kennedy Catholic at Auburn-Riverside.

Tyee travels to Foster and Evergreen to Renton at 7:15 p.m. Monday and at 7 p.m. Tuesday it will be Kentwood at Kennedy Catholic and Auburn-Riverside at Mount Rainier.

Ballard hosts Lincoln at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday as Chief Sealth goes to Lakeside and West Seattle to Blanchet.

The White Center Community Development Association is organizing an event to highlight and remember the businesses along 16th SW that were displaced by the fires that took place this year in the community.

The new Executive Director for the West Seattle Junction Association is hoping to rally the community and get your hometown West Seattle spirit in gear for the next few weeks.

Volunteer opportunities for "Hometown Holidays 2021 in the Junction" are now open. They can use people to help with the night market, selling garlands, putting together the Holiday Tote bags and more. All details are in the link below.

Huard has a rough first start in Apple Cup loss

It's certain it was not the first start as a University of Washington quarterback that Kennedy Catholic graduate Sam Huard had always dreamed of.

After all, his Huskies lost to cross state rival Washington State University by a 40-13 score Friday to spoil his debut.

But the true freshman was not without his flashes of brilliance mixed with the four interceptions that dogged him.

The same brilliance that led to his being ranked as a five star recruit.

His best moments came in the fourth quarter out of the hurry up offense as the Huskies tried to come back.

They included his first career touchdown on a 16-yard pass to freshman Rome Odunze, who reached out for a one-handed grab on the right side of the end zone.

It capped off a drive in which he completed four straight passes for a combined 34 yards.

The Menashe lights are back and bright as ever; Early this year to add more joy

The joy is back. 

The famous Menashe lights at the home of Jack and Linda Menashe of Menashe Jewelers are back this year after scaling back a bit last year due to the pandemic.

Some 340,000 lights from incandescent to LED comprise the brilliant array that covers every surface in the front yard at 5605 Beach Drive SW.

The display will officially be open Dec. 2 and will be glowing nightly from 4:30pm until 11pm.

Christmas Ships visit West Seattle on Saturday Nov. 27

The Argosy Cruises Christmas Ships will be seen in Elliott Bay first at Salty's on Alki at 5:35pm on Saturday Nov. 27 featuring the Dicken's Carolers.

The second performance will be a Alki Beach Park at 8:35pm.

The ships and trailing craft made an appearance at Don Armeni Park on Nov. 26.

Credo Pizzeria tops Trip Advisor "Highest-rated restaurants in Seattle" for fourth year

For the fourth year running Credo Pizzeria in the West Seattle Junction has topped Trip Advisor's list of "Highest-rated restaurants in Seattle" according to the website STACKER.

Credo has been the focus of attention nationally before. In March of this year it was named as the best pizza in Washington State on MSN. In 2018 Credo and chef Jacques Nawar were featured on Guy Fieri's Food Network show, "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives"

Soto, UW reach quarterfinals

Mount Rainier graduate Christian Soto and his University of Washington teammates reached the NCAA "Sweet 16" men's soccer quarterfinals with a 3-0 victory over Portland last Sunday.

Next up for the Huskies is a 5 p.m. Saturday home game against the Indiana Hoosiers.

 

Bwana's team advances

Advancing in the Major League Soccer tournament is Ballard graduate Handwalla Bwana and the Nashville SC team.

They posted a 3-1 victory over Orlando City this past Tuesday and host Philadelpia next at 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

 

Kelemete lands with Chargers

Evergreen graduate Senio Kelemete's journeyman National Football League career has taken another turn.
