Shooting report after burglary leaves unanswered questions

information from Seattle Police Department

#2022-014075/Southwest Precinct/Third Watch:

On 01-17-2022 at 11:41pm hours, neighbors in the 4700 block of SW Charlestown called to report shots fired from a vehicle after a loud argument.

When officers arrived, they located evidence of a shooting in front of an apartment building in the area. A female in the building was contacted who reported a burglary and hinted that her boyfriend may have fired his weapon while confronting the suspects who were driving a Gold or Silver Subaru Forrester with tinted windows.

However, her story changed repeatedly, she admitted lying initially to officers, and her boyfriend had fled the scene in a White BMW prior to officers’ arrival.

Pat's View: Wrong is wrong

  By Patrick Robinson

Human beings by their nature are learning creatures, who by testing limits eventually arrive at a mutual consensus about the world around them. Fire is hot, knives are sharp, dogs can bite.

Those simple concepts form the basis of our understanding about right and wrong. As we grow more sophisticated and more abstract ideas can be understood things like truth vs. lies, freedom vs oppression, love vs. hate,  and democracy vs. autocracy can be evaluated.

At a baseline, it’s not hard to grasp the idea of the right to vote. If you live in a democracy, you should have a right to vote. To limit that right is wrong. Yet we are witnessing that very thing right now in a slow motion national power struggle.

Our former president lost the election. The idea that it was stolen is wrong. Continued lies about that are wrong. Supporting a lie is wrong. Taking actions to remedy a situation based on a lie is wrong.

SDOT: Short-term low bridge closures continue on Sundays in January

information from Seattle Department of Transportation

Over the next three Sundays, we'll briefly close the Spokane St Swing Bridge (low bridge) three times a day to the public. Each closure can last up to 30 minutes, which is about twice as long as the bridge is closed to traffic when it swings open for a vessel.

This year we will perform important rehabilitation upgrades to the low bridge to ensure that it remains in safe and usable condition. We will use these short-term closures to measure important deflection data for the low bridge so that future construction scaffolding will fit properly while we complete this rehabilitation work.

We are doing these short closures during off-peak periods and when there are lulls in traffic to minimize impacts to the community, including transit, freight, and other approved low bridge users.

SDOT: High bridge repair: Two work platforms installed; preparing to hoist final two platforms

information from Seattle Department of Transportation

Last weekend, we hoisted the work platforms into place on the underside of the high bridge’s western span. This weekend, we plan to complete the rigging work on the eastern span of the bridge so that the final platforms can be raised later this month. The work platforms provide crews access to the underside of the bridge and will allow them to complete epoxy injections and carbon-fiber wrapping.
