Fleurt Collective has re-blossomed in the West Seattle Junction

Every year, after the holidays Fleurt Collective at 4536 California Ave SW in the West Seattle Junction, sells out of most of their merchandise and closes down for a time. But this year, coming out of the pandemic and making some important fixes to the building, it seemed like the perfect opportunity for owner Sam Crowley and daughter Keonii to remake the shop and change up the interior, and product array.

SDOT: High bridge repair: All work platforms installed; epoxy injection and carbon-fiber wrapping work up next

information from Seattle Department of Transportation

Last Saturday, we hoisted the final two work platforms into place under the east span of the bridge. The team maneuvered both 50,000-pound work platforms from their assembly locations to the hoist positions using four forklifts. Relocating these platforms required precise, coordinated movements from our crew members who were operating the forklifts

Using forklifts, we maneuvered the work platforms into place under the bridge and attached cables that were connected to winches on the bridge deck.

Mayor Harrell announces a revised approach to public safety in Seattle

Police and Fire Chiefs share data from last year on crime and call outs

Mayor Bruce Harrell in a press conference at Seattle City Hall said that his administration intends to take a different approach to public safety including crime, homelessness and responses to 911 calls.

Following through on the commitments made in his inaugural speech to take a more focused approach to these issues Harrell was joined by Seattle Police Chief Adrian Diaz, and Seattle Fire Chief Harold Scroggins as well as Deputy Mayors  Tiffany Washington, Kendee Yamaguchi, and Monisha Harrell.

“I want to be very clear – we will not tolerate crime in Seattle. Whether organized retail theft, crimes of violence against our most vulnerable, crimes of hate, or especially gun violence, we will not look the other way while the fabric of our neighborhoods and city is destroyed,” said Harrell.

Ezell's Chicken West Seattle opening Monday Feb. 7

The well known Ezell's Chicken will open its West Seattle location in the Morgan Street Junction on Monday Feb. 7 at 10am. This is a "soft open" so bear that in mind.

Expect a line. They are opening a week before the Superbowl, rather intentionally. Sean Casey, District Manager for the company said smiling, "This isn't the first time we've done that!"

A crew was in house on Thursday to get their final training before launch.

The chain, started in 1984 near Garfield High School and was so well regarded that by 1987 they had formed partnerships with the Sonics and Seahawks (still feeding the Seahawks nearly every week).

 information from Highline Public Schools

The idea sparked in Nha Khuc’s brain back in the summer of 2020 during an environmental internship prior to her senior year. “What would it take to put solar panels on the roof of the new Highline High School?”

Approximately 42 Zoom meetings and 11 presentations later, a group of students has learned most of the answer to Khuc's question. But first their results!
