#2022-143281/Southwest Precinct/First Watch:
On 06-06-2022 at 7:27am, a suspect walked inside the West Seattle Thriftway located at the 4200 BLK of SW Morgan St and grabbed sandwiches.
The suspect attempted to exit the store. Employees at the store confronted the suspect about the items, and he pulled out a knife, made threats, and jabbed at the employee screaming.
The suspect left the store and officers located him in the area.
The knife was recovered, and after a show up the suspect was placed in custody for Robbery.
At this time, the identity of the suspect is unknown. SPD Robbery Unit was notified.

#2022-107341/Southwest Precinct/Second Watch:
On 04-29-2022 at 2:26pm, the victim was robbed at gunpoint in West Seattle. Her car and other belongings were taken.
Detective was assigned the case for follow-up. His investigation identified two possible suspects.
One suspect was in SCORE (South Correctional Entity a regional jail in Des Moines) on unrelated charges and was due to be released on 06-05-2022. Det. and Sgt. went to SCORE and arrested the suspect for this robbery.
He was transported to SPD headquarters where he was interviewed. The suspect confessed to this robbery and was then booked into KCJ.
The second suspect is still outstanding.

The annual West Seattle Summerfest celebration is back after a two year hiatus due to COVID. The event set for July 15-17 is sponsored by the West Seattle Junction Association. This year the music will only be presented on Friday and Saturday.
The Southwest Seattle Historical Society celebrated 25 years of its own history in the freshly remodeled event space at Salty's on Alki June 3. The event was attended by West Seattle luminaries such as Luna Park Cafe owner and community activist John Bennett, Salty's owners Gerry and Kathryn Kingen, former Executive Director of the museum Clay Eals and wife Meg, The event was also a fundraising auction to help fund a new roof for the museum as well as a new handrail. The museum recently received a $26,000 grant for the purpose and hoped to match that amount through donations and auction proceeds.

Following last week’s completion of structural concrete pours, we continued our work on post-tensioning the bridge. Our focus this week was installing more of the 11,000 feet of ducts that will guide and protect the tensioning cablesthroughout the bridge. Once installed, these post-tensioning cables will tighten to strengthen the bridge’s concrete.

Tonight, in recognition of Gun Violence Awareness Day, Seattle will light up orange to show support for survivors of gun violence, in memory of those who have passed due to gun violence, and to express the city’s commitment to action and change. On Friday evening, buildings across the city, including the Space Needle, Pacific Science Center, T-Mobile Park, Lumen Field, and Climate Pledge Arena will light up orange.
After two years of being shuttered by the pandemic, the Ballard Film Festival (BFF) is back! Everyone in the community is invited to a screening of new work by students in the Ballard High School Digital Filmmaking Program. The curtains will rise at BFF at 6:30 p.m. Friday, June 10, 2022 in the high school’s Performing Arts Center. The screening will feature short comedies and dramas, advertisements and documentaries.
Tickets ($10 for adults and $5 for students, cash only) will be sold at the door. Film Department t-shirts will also be for sale, as a department fundraiser, for $20 (also cash only). Funds raised at BFF will help provide current equipment and supplies for the Digital Filmmaking students, as well as pay for field trip transportation and other costs.

As part of King County's Revive and Thrive Together program small businesses in unincorporated King County with COVID-19 impacts and expenses can apply for grants of up to $30,000 between June 15 and July 15.
Additional support and priority will be given to businesses affected by the fires in White Center last year. Language and technical assistance are available to help apply for the funds.
