Neighborhood Chestnut tree saved by advocacy and SDOT innovation

Local environmental leaders and even young students were advocates for the tree

The Chestnut tree on Fauntleroy Way SW at Fontanelle Street SW that was under threat of removal has gotten a full reprieve. Reunited is the theme and graphic chosen for the eventual reopening of the West Seattle Bridge events

The winner of the West Seattle Bridge reopening events design contest is Susie Perry whose depiction of a city skyline, bridge, and the theme Reunited won out over 29 other entries.

The actual events of course remain under discussion and in planning since no firm date for the reopening has been announced by SDOT who have consistently said, "Mid-year" though that may not be a strict definition. Technically the 183rd day of the year is July 2 but that date is highly unlikely.
