What is happening with RV's in West Seattle? Lisa Herbold responds

In response to reader inquiries, Westside Seattle reached out to District 1 Councilmember Lisa Herbold's office to get clarification on enforcement of the 72 hour parking rule for RV's in Seattle.

In June, a large encampment was cleared from Andover Street SW and while that was effective in addressing that area that had become the scene of several incidents of criminal actiivty, it appeared to some in West Seattle that quite a number of the RV's had simply moved to Harbor Ave. SW.

Herbold also offered this update from Seattle Police.

Hello all,

I just wanted to update everyone on the progress at Harbor Ave SW.

HERBOLD: Update on Hiawatha Community Center improvements

District 1 Seattle City Councilmember Lisa Herbold shared this news via her constituent newsletter

The Hiawatha Community Center Stabilization Project has been stalled due to new federal guidance on infrastructure projects.  Yesterday the City cleared an important hurdle to addressing this delay.  The State received a waiver from the federal guidance that was holding it up.  The Hiawatha Community Center Stabilization Project is now heading for a FEMA grant award.

Background: I’ve heard from several constituents recently asking for updates on the Hiawatha Community Center improvements, including electrical repairs, water and sewer pipe replacements, furnace and water heater repairs, roof replacement, and more.  Seattle Parks & Recreation has provided this information on the project website:

House fire behind West Seattle Junction draws big response

A fire that was primarily confined to one wall, according to Seattle firefighters, in a small home in the 4700 block of 45th SW, drew more than 21 units from the fire department on Friday evening shortly before 7pm. No one was hurt in the incident.

The initial call said that the fire was coming from a building behind the West Seattle Junction business Nurturing Expressions. But firefighters quickly determined it was in one story home with an attic bedroom.

They completed a search of the building attic to basement and dealt with the fire which was likely electrical in nature.

No estimate or confirmed cause of the fire.

Closure of International Boulevard coming in July for WSDOT construction in SeaTac

Information from the City of SeaTac

Drivers need to be prepared for a 28-night southbound closure of International Boulevard between South 204th Street and South 208th Street.

The nearly month-long nighttime closure could begin as early as Tuesday, July 5 and extend through August. The start date is pending approval of permits and a traffic control plan. Detours will be in place to direct drivers around the closure. The nighttime closure is expected to run from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. The project completion date could be affected by inclement weather.

The closure will allow Puget Sound Energy to install a new gas main on a new bridge over the future State Route 509 extension. The project is part of a joint construction project for the SR 509 extension from I-5 to 24th Avenue South and the Sound Transit Light Rail Extension from Angle Lake Station to Federal Way.
