Whitney Moore leaving West Seattle Chamber; Staying until late July

 

Whitney Moore, who has been the Executive Director for the West Seattlle Chamber of Commerce is leaving the job at the end of July. 
She took the job in April of 2021 during the difficult period as the pandemic eased and the bridge remained closed.

The Executive Board of the Chamber shared the news in an email and said:

 "Through her leadership, we have expanded the reach of the Chamber, added meaningful programming opportunities for our membership and improved the structure of our organization in so many different ways. Her infectious sense of humor and positive nature can turn around anyone’s bad day – she has been doing that daily for an entire business community!"
 
The board said they are "working to finalize an updated job description and process for hiring our next ED."


Whitney, they shared has been developing a children’s book and will be taking some time off.

16th annual Instruments of Change Gala Dinner and Auction for West Seattle Food Bank is May 6

After two years of virtual events and then a live/virtual hybrid event last year the Instruments of Change Gala Dinner and Auction is back in person for 2023.

May 6th, 2023 at 6pm at The Hall at Fauntleroy

This event will be a night of fun and entertainment, all in support of mission if the Wets Seattle Food Bank to ensure all in the community have access to the essential necessities of living.

The West Seattle Food Bank provides essential services to neighbors in need, and your support is critical to our continued success. Your ticket purchase, auction bids, and donations will benefit individuals and families in the community who rely on their services.

Fundraiser for genetic disorder EB held at Phoenecia restaurant

Vedder family is a strong supporter of research into life threatening condition

Well known West Seattle philanthropist Jill Vedder is a passionate supporter for research into a relatively rare genetic disorder, Epidermolysis Bullosa or EB. She brought that passion and her two daughters to a fundraising event that was held Sunday April 2 at the Phoenecia Restaurant in the Junction.

The event had participants take ice bath plunges (up to 3 minutes long) just outside the restaurant.

Fire Station 37 Safety Fair aimed to engage and educate

The Seattle Fire Department Station 37 was aiming to engage kids and their parents on April 1 at their Fire Safety Fair.

The station at 35th SW and SW Holden Street opened their doors to the public and had a series of education stations set up inside to better inform people about the importance of fire safety.

Seattle Fire Department Education and Outreach advisor Carrie Brazil said, "The purpose of the fair is to educate kids and adults about the basics of fire safety and prevention. It's really important to talk to children as young as two to three year olds, to start the conversation about it."

Early Notice: Peony Festival at Seattle Chinese Garden set for May 13-14

The complexity and beauty of Peony blooms will be on display May 13 and 14 (if all goes as planned) at the Seattle Chinese Garden.
