Pat's View: Institutionalized lying is destroying us and the world

By Patrick Robinson

I try not to despair for the world. There are so many that practice and through their actions promote love and compassion.

These people understand that toxic thinking patterns are what lead to dissolution, darkness and breakdown.

You can see those patterns in the minds of those who complain, without offering actual recourse. It’s not enough to simply claim that a vote invested in one person or party is the solution. It’s a mistake to assume that by controlling the flow of information you can completely correct or control behavior.

That’s never been true.

But we live in a time where systems of social control have been invalidated.

We live in a time of institutionalized lies.

Deliberate dissemination of false information for the purpose of achieving a particular goal or agenda is dangerous to more than America. It threatens the entire world.

Pat's View: Today my Dad would have been 103 years old

by Patrick Robinson

He was a fisherman, golfer, businessman, friend, community organizer, salesman, writer, humorist, photographer, husband and most of all father, first to five boys then later after my mother died father to two girls and another boy. He bought the White Center News in 1952 and nearly failed in 1965 but kept going. He bought the West Seattle Herald in 1974 and brought me in as the photographer. We had other adventures (including starting the world's first all digital video production facility in 1987) and he was an incredibly vital man, writing for the paper until three weeks before he passed in 2014.

He wanted so much to be loved and he was. He showed it and demonstrated it by being loving himself. That's probably the greatest lesson he taught me. Love you Dad. Thank you for everything.

He wrote the following in his autobiography.

UPDATE: The future of the West Seattle Junction looks like mixed use apartments says the WSTP board

The junction leadership and lot owners respond to questions regarding re-development of parking lots regarding current lease and impact on businesses during development

NOTE: This story which appeared on April 4 has been updated with responses from the WSTP sent on Wednesday April 5.

The annual Stockholder’s meeting on March 30, of the West Seattle Trusteed Partners (WSTP)  the group that owns and controls five West Seattle Junction parking lot properties, reaffirmed by vote the existing Executive Committee members in leadership and provided some signposts for the potential development future those properties.

The Development Committee of WSTP consisting of Joe Erickson, Charlie Conner, Leon Capelouto and John Costacos has been soliciting offers on development.

One aspect of development championed by local developer Leon Capelouto is the goal of constructing a hospital in West Seattle but as of the last meeting it’s looking less likely to happen, despite both the popularity of the idea and the need for it.

In community polls conducted four years ago a hospital was chosen as the number one need.
