Red light cameras likely to go up aimed at racers around Seattle; New ordinance will be discussed July 25

Three streets in West Seattle and one in Ballard would see increased enforcement

Three streets in West Seattle and one in Ballard are on the list in Seattle that are part of a new ordinance to install speed cameras targeting street racers. It would establish "restricted racing zones" that would hopefully stop incidents such as the one on July 17  that caused a car to be sent into the water on Alki Beach. The female driver remains in critical condition.

In West Seattle they are:

  • Alki Ave SW between 63rd Ave SW and Harbor Ave SW.
  • Harbor Ave SW between Alki Ave SW and SW Spokane St.
  • West Marginal Way SW between SW Spokane St and 2nd Ave SW.

and in Ballard

  • Seaview Ave NW between Golden Gardens Park and 34th Ave NW.
