DUI suspect punches firefighter leading to charges

#2023-300308/Southwest Precinct/Second Watch:

At 5:34pm on Monday Oct. 16, dispatch received calls regarding an erratically driven vehicle that parked in the 7300 block of Delridge Way Southwest.

The driver of the vehicle appeared to be going in and out of consciousness in the vehicle. Seattle Fire Department were dispatched to assist the driver. Upon arrival the vehicle was now in the roadway with the driver slumped over.

SFD contacted the subject who was non-responsive, and they attempted to remove him from the vehicle to facilitate medical assistance.

As SFD removed the driver, he immediately struck a Firefighter. SPD was called and arrived shortly thereafter and contacted the driver. The driver was taken into custody for assault and DUI.

The victim was uninjured and declined medical treatment.

King County Executive Dow Constantine announced today the launch of the Public Health – Seattle & King County Regional Office of Gun Violence Prevention to ensure comprehensive coordination and collaboration to address gun violence in King County. The office will advance existing initiatives and programs, and expand Community Violence Intervention (CVI) services to Kent, Burien and Skyway in 2024.

Pat's View: Evil must be met head on but with more than guns

It's very important to remember that your views of the Israel/Hamas conflict and chain of events are distorted.

Not very comforting perhaps but nonetheless true. 

Here's why. First, you are hearing news reports that historically and increasingly in recent times are focused on the most adrenaline soaked aspects. 

It's meant to get and keep your attention. 

Since these graphic images and reports are repeated over and over in light of the fact that they have little NEW to say (even in a fast developing story there is a significant lag between the event and its story). You don't hear, at the same time, any kind of rebalancing acts of compassion, kindness, and calm. 

Admittedly, in a war zone, those are harder to find but still... you can be certain people are helping others by driving them, taking them in, feeding them, caring for them but those acts don’t make the news.

PURPOSE

The purposes of this public safety event are:

1. To reduce the number of guns in circulation, which could lead to a reduction in accidents, injuries, and deaths caused by guns.

2. To offer residents a safe, consistent option for returning unwanted firearms and ammunition, with the ultimate goal of promoting public health and safety.

3. To address the increase in gun violence in King County by implementing a voluntary firearm and ammunition return program that can be easily accessed by residents.

Volunteers needed in Burien for environmental restoration events

To celebrate the kickoff of planting season in the Pacific Northwest, the Green Burien Partnership is hosting several environmental restoration events in Burien parks this fall. All events are open to the public, kid friendly, with no experience necessary. Refreshments, gloves, and tools will be offered for each event. Pre-registration is required for all events.

Detectives seeking help in locating homicide suspect in bus shooting incident in White Center

King County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) Major Crimes Detectives are seeking the community’s help in locating the suspect of a homicide in White Center on October 3rd.

17-year-old Miguel Rivera Dominguez has been identified as the suspect who fatally shot Marcel Da’jon Wagner, 21, on a Metro Bus earlier this month.
