Suspected car thieves ram patrol cars in attempt to escape capture in Ballard

Information from Seattle Police Blotter

On September 11th, 2023, Seattle police arrested a couple after they were found in a stolen vehicle and the male driver rammed multiple police vehicles in an attempt to escape in Ballard.

Shortly before 1:30 p.m., an officer was flagged down in the 1400 block of NW Market St by security who said there were two subjects passed out in a vehicle with no plates in the business’s parking lot. The officer immediately recognized the suspects from a series of incidents involving eluding officers in several stolen vehicles.

Officers coordinated a plan to prevent the driver from eluding and contacted the suspects. The male driver put the car in reverse and tried to escape, the driver drove forward and became pinned between two police vehicles. Officers forced entry to the vehicle and were able to take the male and female suspects into custody without further incident.

REMINDER: Spokane St Swing Bridge (low bridge) closing to people driving, walking and biking: October 7 – 14

Information from SDOT

The Spokane St Swing Bridge (low bridge) is a vital connection across the West Duwamish Waterway, particularly for people biking or walking and for truck drivers and workers accessing Terminal 5. The structure was built in 1991 and opens for marine vessels around 1,500 times yearly (an average of four times per day). The low bridge is just one example of our city’s transportation infrastructure. To keep that transportation infrastructure safe and operational, we regularly inspect, monitor, and refurbish critical components of these structures.
