Seattle Parks will hold a project updates public zoom meeting Nov. 27

Seattle Parks and Recreation is staging a Zoom meeting, which the public can join regarding updates on a variety of local park projects on November 27.

The agenda for the one hour presentation is extensive ranging from resurfacing a materials storage area in Lincoln Park to the South Park Community Center site improvements.

The resurfacing project, intended to be used for pickleball courts is opposed by people objecting to the noise, disruption of wildlife habitat and other environmental impacts is now on hold. It had been on a fast track by Seattle Parks and Recreation but was the scene of public protests over the last few weeks which caused parks to delay further work on the site.

Fifty years of success has been all about relationships for Menashe and Sons Jewelers

At the age of 25 Jack Menashe, with his wife Linda and three month old son Josh chose to buy Teague's Jewelers and open his own store, It was 1973. He changed the name to Menashe Jewelers and thus began a 50 year journey of community service.

Jack had previously spent several years working for Weisfield's Jewelers. Brothers Leo and Sam Weisfield and their brother-in-law Ralph Goldberg had a small watch-repair business in Seattle, started in 1917. They had stores in Seattle, Tacoma, Aberdeen, Bellingham and Mount Vernon and Spokane. Jack was the "swing man" filling in for managers who went on vacation. The experience proved to be invaluable.

"It taught me the value of treating everyone the same. The diversity of people who would come in showed me that everyone deserves respect and that it didn't matter if they came to buy a $10 battery or spend thousands on a beautiful piece of jewelry," Jack said.

Seahawks "takeover" Nacho Mama's Fry Bread Cafe in White Center

A crowd gathered and many more kept coming as the Seattle Seahawks did a community outreach effort by taking over Nacho Mama's Fry Bread Cafe at 9418 Delridge Way SW on Nov. 15.

Nacho Mama's was chosen as emblematic of a Native American and woman owned business. Westside Seattle profiled the restaurant and owner Debra LeComb last year when they opened.

Using the Intentionalist, an online platform that aims to enhance inclusivity, The Seattle Seahawks brought the mascot Blitz and at least one Seagal cheerleader to the restaurant, buying lunch for everyone who bought a beverage. Unfortunately no players were able to attend, it was the players day off.
