OLG Holiday Gift Fair is this weekend Nov. 18 and 19

The Our Lady of Guadalupe  Holiday Gift Fair is set for two days Nov. 18 and 19. The church is located at 7000 35th Ave SW.

Saturday from 6:30pm to 7:30pm and Sunday from 9:30am to 2:30pm

Shop ethically sourced products from around the world. create your own advent wreath centerpiece for your holiday table and enjoy a deliciious lunch  on Saturday of Chili bowls, or Mac & Cheese, Lumpia and Tasty Bake Sale treats

White Center Library Guild Holiday Bazaar and Book Sale set for Nov. 17 and 18

The annual White Center Library Guild Holiday Bazaar and book sale is set for two day Nov. 17 and 18 11am to 4pm.

The event is taking place at the White Center Library 1409 SW 107th Street Seattle, WA 98146

All ages are welcome.

Guest can shop for books, gently used household treasures, and white elephant holiday gifts.

All proceeds benefit the programs for the White Center Library.

Eastridge Church Turkey and grocery giveaway set for Nov. 18

Eastridge Church at 4500 39th Avenue SW will be giving away 1,500 turkeys between their Issaquah & West Seattle locations While supplies last, on November 18 at 9am. 

The giveaway will be conducted as a Walk Through.

The aim is to help those in need, not just for the general public. 

Do you need or know someone who could use a helping hand this year to put a Thanksgiving meal on the table? No proof of need required.

For 20 years, Eastridge Church has put on the giveaway and offered a free turkey and bag of groceries to families in the community who may need a little help to put a holiday meal on their table. Eastridge Church’s goal through the event is to demonstrate to its neighbors that Eastridge cares by providing a meal this Thanksgiving.

West Seattle Nursery celebrates 40 years of growth

 

The West Seattle Nursery celebrated it's 40th Anniversary on Nov. 11, 2023.

Mark Smith, began selling Christmas trees during college and spent several years managing seasonal nurseries in other parts of the city. The first version of West Seattle Nursery and Garden center opened in 1983. Smith and Irene Stewart, the business co-founders set up shop first on SW Barton Street, across from Westwood Village. They moved around West Seattle until 1987, when they opened year round on land that is now Morgan Junction park. "Every time I set it up the property owner would sell it because it looked so good," said Smith laughing.

The Green Seattle Partnership is a collaboration between City of Seattle, community groups and non-profits, businesses, schools, and thousands of volunteers working together to restore and actively maintain the City’s forested parklands.

Election 2023: UPDATE- Saka out pacing Costa for District 1 seat; Mosqueda pulls ahead of Aragon for County Council position

King County- Seattle Housing levy winning easily

Rob Saka has maintained his commanding lead over Maren Costa in the District 1 race for Seattle City Council as the latest results came in from King County Elections.

Saka is at 58.53% of the vote with 10,393 and Coata has 40.93% with 7,265 votes.

The King County- Seattle affordable housing levy is winning by a large margin 66% to 34%

In the race for King County Council seat 8 Teresa Mosqueda has pulled ahead of current Burien Mayor Sofia Aragon. 

Teresa Mosqueda now has 50.68 % with 17,244 votes vs Sofia Aragon with 48.88% and 16.612 votes.

In the race for Burien City Council position No. 2 Linda Akey is winning handily with 60.94% of the vote, and 3423 votes over competitor Cydney Moore with 38.47% and 2,161 votes.

Clerk held up at gunpoint at Harbor Ave store

Detectives are investigating a robbery after a store clerk was held at gunpoint while several suspects stole money and merchandise from a West Seattle business Sunday morning.

Shortly after 3:00 a.m., officers responded to a reported robbery in the 2400 block of Harbor Avenue Southwest. Officers arrived and contacted a 33-year-old male victim who stated he was cleaning when several males in their late teens to early twenties entered the store.

One of the suspects pointed a rifle at the victim, directed him to the cash registers and demanded he open them. The suspects grabbed the money and merchandise before fleeing in a white sedan.
