Can you help? Westside Neighbor Shelter needs donations

Keith Hughes has been helping veterans for a long time. Now he needs your help to keep the doors open.

DONATE HERE

Funds go to “Keep the Heat On” which literally means being able to pay the gas, electric, water, and sewer bills, insurance, and building maintenance (like cleaning supplies). He can’t keep doing it without our help. Every dollar makes a difference!

Please join your neighbors this season in supporting this amazing cause! All donations go directly to the shelter.

SDOT: Spokane St Swing Bridge recap: Refurbished turn cylinder successfully installed

By Ethan Bancroft for SDOT

Following the successful reinstallation of the low bridge’s turn cylinder that we removed earlier this year, the Spokane St Swing Bridge (low bridge) reopened on Tuesday, October 10, to people walking, biking, rolling, and driving!

We closed the low bridge between October 7-10 to all traffic. During this time, we completed our planned maintenance work ahead of schedule. Our bridge maintenance crew used their experience removing the turn cylinder earlier this year to maneuver it back into place more easily.

Next year (2024), we’ll reinstall the refurbished cylinder we removed during the most recent closure, and then rehabilitate the two remaining turn cylinders in the west bridge pier. Check out the photos below for some highlights from the removal and reinstallation work.

HERBOLD: Fauntleroy ferry terminal replacement planning update, SEPA Delayed Until 2025

Information from District 1 City Councilmember Lisa Herbold

The Fauntleroy Ferry Terminal Executive Advisory Committee, of which I am a member, met on October 18th.  The Community Advisory Committee met on the 25th.

The biggest news is that it will take about a year and a half longer to begin formal environmental review. SEPA and NEPA environmental analysis required under state and federal law are now scheduled to begin in 2025. Previously, the Planning & Environmental linkages (PEL) planning study was planned to end around now, identifying different alternatives to study in SEPA and NEPA.
