WestsideSeattle has gotten multiple questions regarding the YMCA Fauntleroy location regarding its potential closure. The good news? It's remaining open but the Seattle YMCA is seeking public input on how to keep it in financially sound operation. Members have received emails stating it will remain open at least through 2024. A town hall meeting at wil be held at the Fauntleroy Church on the same grounds as the Y on 1/19 from 4-6pm.
Vannessa Margarita Blea, Senior Director of Communications for YMCA of Greater Seattle shared a statement regarding this:

We have a Healthy Streets update for the West Seattle community! In 2022 we conducted outreach and shared design concepts to community at in-person events and collected comments on proposed design and in 2023 evaluated the community’s feedback on the proposed design to consider potential design modifications.
We are excited to share the updated design plans based on what the community strongly desired, which is to construct an additional walking/biking area along the beach front and to connect the existing bike lane on Alki Ave SW along Beach Dr SW.
The new design includes:
A crowd estimated to be in the thousands and certainly the largest ever came to Alki Beach on New Years morning 2024 for the annual polar plunge
With air temperatures in the 30’s the water at 50 degrees was warmer.
Organized by Mark Ufkes the people were in good spirits.
For some a portable sauna from PNW Mobile Spa was available while other chose to dance to the silent disco and others did exercises.
Future Primitive Brewing and Fire Taco took advantage of the event, opening early.
Many lingered after the plunge taking in the beginning of a happy new year.
