Friday is a good day for crosstown rivalry games.

Mount Rainier hosts Kennedy Catholic in 4 p.m. action and Chief Sealth entertains West Seattle at 7 p.m.

Several other games are also taking place.

Tyee gets a 3:30 p.m. visit from Rainier Christian and Ballard visits Blanchet at 4 p.m.

Highline meets Nathan Hale for a 5 p.m. contest at T-Mobile Park and Evergreen meets Cleveland in a 7 p.m. battle at Steve Cox Memorial Park in White Center.

Ballard gets to play at T-Mobile Saturday, taking on Auburn at 6 p.m 

Tyee hosts Evergreen at 3:30 p.m. Monday at Valley Ridge and Kennedy Catholic entertains Mount Rainier at 4 p.m. as Franklin drops in on Ballard.

Highline hosts Foster at 5 p.m. and Cleveland visits Chief Sealth at 7 p.m.

The West Seattle Junciton Spring Wine Walk is coming up on May 17th from 5-9PM 

30 wineries are participating this Spring, the most ever for this event.

The 2024 Morgan Junction Festival is set for Saturday, June 15, 2024 10am-2pm at Morgan Junction Park on California Ave SW

Dedicated volunteers are hard at work scheduling performers, arranging activities, and securing the best local vendors.

They are now taking applications for all vendors-for profit, non-profit, government, etc.

Timeline and Process:

Applications are due by April 26 and successful applicants will be notified by May 6th.

Accepted applicants will receive payment instructions with their acceptance and must pay booth fees in a timely manner. After the payment deadline, we will invite waitlisted vendors to fill unpaid spaces. Accepted, paid applicants will be notified of their booth space number one week prior to the festival.

It may be small, but it's mighty. The stage at Easy Street Records upon which thousands of brilliant musicians have performed is up for sale. It's only 8 feet by 10 feet and foot high but everyone from Pearl Jam to Duff McKagan to The Church have played on it.

Now they are selling it as a benefit to help local music educators Mode Music whose building is set to be acquired by Sound Transit as they expand light rail into West Seattle in the next few years.

Owner Matt Vaughan shared the news via social media:

"There have been so many iconic moments on our stage, guessing about 2,000 performances. Have a favorite? Discover an artist? Meet a new friend?

The Seattle Police Department will be hosting DEA Drug Take Back Day on April 27th 10:00AM to 2:00PM paired with a Shredathon to aid our communities in properly disposing of unwanted or expired medications and unwanted documents ALL IN ONE PLACE!

They have partnered with Iron Mountain Shredding, who have donated their shredding services to benefit the communities of Seattle. This will be a free event, but they will be accepting canned and dry goods to benefit food banks in each drop-off location’s precinct.

Update 4/14/24

Karam Saidam is getting out of Gaza tomorrow. The young man who spent time in West Seattle as an exchange student at Sealth High School has been approved to leave the war torn nation. It's been a lengthy and costly process but it now appears that his family may be able to leave and seek safety in Egypt too. Karam has expressed that his dream is to be able to return to West Seattle but his family is still seeking financial assistance to make that posslble. In a story on The Urbanist.org on April 12 writer Ryan Packer wrote that King County Councilmember Teresa Mosqueda is asking Sound Transit to make modifications for the planned Delridge route and station.

While the route decisions won't be fully known until Sound Transit releases the final Environmental Impact Statement this summer, the plan in the Draft will force some notable businesses to move or just close.

Sound Transit began the property acquisition process last month and on their list are the Skylark Cafe/Club, Mode Music Studios (and perfomance space), Alki Beach Academy, Ounces Taproom and the swimming pool section of the West Seattle Health Club. 

In the wake of a walk through of the North Delridge business area by King County Councilmember Teresa Mosqueda, City Councilmember Rob Saka and business owners, Skylark Cafe/Club owner Matt Larson has some questions about the information gathering process.  

In a letter to Sound Transit, King County Executive Dow Constantine, Councilmember Mosqueda, Councilmember Saka and others Larson writes:

"Thank you for your time and investment in learning about the challenges that we are facing with the impending relocation of our respective businesses.  While there is a lot to discuss, one specific item that we would like to bring to your attention is the required information gathering that we feel has not been followed through on to our knowledge.
