Full Tilt Ice Cream in White Center will close May 26; Wholesale will stop later this month

Columbia City location will remain open

Full Tilt Ice Cream is set to close. In the wake of the death of founder Justin Cline, his wife Ann Magyar shared the news in an announcement on Facebook.

Dear Full Tilt family,

Justin founded Full Tilt with the hope he could work for himself and be part of the neighborhood in a positive, fun way. He wanted a place for music and art and for families to play. We opened on June 20, 2008 and were floored from day one at how much the community embraced us. We met so many people and made so many friends that we still hold dear. We loved watching kids learn to play pinball and Pac-Man and beg to stay just a little longer. So many artists and musicians and chefs have shared our space and we’ve been honored to be part of those journeys. Full Tilt was never just about the ice cream. But now Justin is gone, and it just isn’t the same without him. It’s time for Full Tilt as we know it to end.

One year later; Ka'Don Brown's death remains unsolved

Family and friends gathered on the anniversary of his shooting, hoping to get some answers

It was April 7 2023 that Ka'Don Brown was shot to death. The case remains unsolved but his mother Maxine Brooks and more than 20 of his friends and family came to the place his body was found on a corner of the Sealth High School campus on this sad anniversary to remind people they are still demanding justice, still seeking information that will lead to an arrest.

Nearly 21, Ka'Don was a young man who loved music, video games, and basketball, and he often played at the Southwest Athletic Complex (SWAC) on Thistle Street in West Seattle. He especially loved football, basketball and spending time with his family.

He had gone to the SWAC on the evening of April 7 to play some video games and basket ball, Maxine said.

She got a call from him at 10:44pm. She was unable to answer but did call back a few minutes later and he did not take the call.

Calls to 911 claimed they heard shots in the area between 10:30 and 11:00 pm.

OP ED- Here's why West Seattle needs a comprehensive transit plan

By Marie McKinsey

Outside the well served transit hubs, at the Alaska Junction and Westwood Village, West Seattle residents have hit-or-miss transit options. Some routes, like the RapidRide C Line, are great, but the Metro 37 route has been closed for years, leaving some people without any access to transit. Other routes have limited hours or frequency. Some don't run on weekends.

I had hoped to at least find acknowledgement of these transit deficiencies in the just released drafts of the One Seattle Comprehensive Plan and the new Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) Plan. Both look ahead 20 years and offer what officials believe will meet Seattle's needs.
