Top Pot Doughnuts opens in the West Seattle Junction

The company is back in the community after leaving in 2021

Top Pot doughnuts is back in West Seattle. They previously had a location on Alki but in 2021 they got word the building owner was remodeling. That led to their exit but now they've reopened at 4709 California Ave SW (the former Flying Apron Baking location).

The company, with the new addition has 17 locations, and was founded in 2002 by brothers Michael and Mark Klebeck. But the name comes from what was basically a happy accident. They found a sign that originally read TOP SPOT. Mark described what happened next.

UPDATE: Cantanna Fest moved AGAIN, this time to Puyallup's McMillin Farm

Event will be filled with music and vendors August 10 & 11

Update 8/7/24

The Cantanna Fest, meant to promote issues around Cannabis has been moved a lot. Originally set to take place in Snohomish County, the property was sold and the festival had to go. Then the promoters found Lincoln Park in West Seattle and it was permitted, had a map and set to take place, only to hear from the quiet neighborhood and others in the community who protested. From there it was moved to Myrtle Edwards Park on the Seattle waterfront.. but even that fell through which led them to seek another host site. Now in three days the Cantanna Fest with 60 bands and booths and much more is set to be staged at McMillin Farm in Puyallup, specfically,

The unexpected link between your body and your conflicts

Struggling with reactivity: Here’s how body awareness can help

By Beth Dayo

Conflict is an inevitable part of life, and how we navigate it can significantly impact our relationships and well-being. Healthy conflict leads to growth, understanding, and strengthened relationships. Unfortunately, many of us struggle with unhealthy conflict, which causes stress, resentment, and emotional damage. How did we get here, and how do we break free from these habitual patterns of reactivity?

Unhealthy conflict is always reactive. Some of us shut down and placate, while others attack and lash out. Both are forms of reactivity and both result from a disconnection with our body in the present moment. In hindsight, we may recognize feeling bottled up or explosive, but in the moment, those feelings completely hijack our body to do the bidding of our spinning mind.

Glen Acres golf course celebrated 100 years in vintage style

Information from Glen Acres Golf and Country Club

Friday, May 17, 2024, Glen Acres Golf & Country Club kicked-off what will be a year- long 100th Anniversary celebration. The course was the concept of half-a-dozen prominent Seattle businessmen, who in the early 1920’s wanted to establish a club that was both inclusive and non-discriminatory, unusual for the time.  Funds raised and location scouted, the official announcement of Puget Sound’s 10th and newest course, initially named the Washington Golf & County Club (soon renamed Glendale), was made May 17, 1924.

La Chingona adds a shrine for loved ones and invites you to be part of it

Sandra and Edgar Fauvet, owners of La Chingona Taqueria on Avalon Way have always honored their culture. The ingredients they use, the way meals are prepared and served are all authentic to Mexico City style cuisine. They've even decorated the restaurant with many aspects of one of the major Mexican cultural celebrations Dia De La Muertos (Day of the Dead) traditionally celebrated Nov. 1 but they felt there was something missing. Now they've filled in that missing piece.

They've created an "Ofrenda", an altar which is a tradtional way to honor loved ones who have passed away.
