Seattle concludes its series in Detroit with a 10:10 a.m. Thursday gamec before playing in Pittsburgh at 3:40 p.m. Friday, 10:05 a.m. Saturday and 10:35 a.m. Sunday.

The Mariners visit the Los Angeles Dodgers at 7:10 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

The games can all be seen on ROOT Sports Northwest.

 

Seahawks

Seattle continues its preseason Saturday, visiting the Tennessee Titans for a 4 p.m. game carried live on Channel 5.

 

Storm

Seattle returns to action after its Olympic break Friday, dropping in on Atlanta at 4:30 p.m.

The Storm moves on to Indiana at 12:30 p.m. Sunday and to Washington at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Pat's View: Intent matters

It’s become a common refrain from people who have grown mistrustful of the media to suggest that stories about political figures or issues on the left or right are what has been labeled as “Fake News” and while that’s demonstrably true in a few cases, extrapolating that idea to a larger perspective is wrong.

It’s useful to think about how laws are shaped when we consider this idea because laws rely on human intent. Did you intend to harm someone? Was there malice of forethought? What was the person’s intent?

Human intent is shaped by a variety of factors, which can be broadly categorized into psychological, social, and environmental influences. 

Here are some key factors:

Personal Beliefs and Values: These are deeply ingrained principles that guide an individual’s decisions and actions. They are often shaped by cultural, religious, and familial influences.

Burien's new minimum wage law among the highest in the nation

Law is threatened with replacement by initiative tied to the City of Tukwila

On March 18, 2024, the Burien City Council adopted a Minimum Wage Ordinance (BMC 5.15) establishing a citywide minimum wage effective January 1, 2025. The council-adopted minimum wage is among the highest in the nation and will increase annually based on a cost-of-living adjustment.

Two suspects being sought in shooting near Walgreens in White Center

Two shooting suspects are being sought by Seattle Police after a man was shot twice Sunday afternoon near the Walgreens Drug store in the 9400 block of 16th SW. in White Center.

A 23-year-old man suffered two gunshot wounds to his leg and lower back in the incident. The wounds are not life threatening.

Seattle Fire Department treated the man at the shooting scene. He was then taken to Harborview Medical Center in stable but serious condition

Body found in White Center; No foul play indicated

The body of an adult male was discovered near 4th Ave. SW and 112th SW near White Center on August 10. The King County Sheriff's office released this statement: 

 "A passerby called KCSO and local medics regarding an unresponsive male in his 60’s or 70’s at that location and time. KCSO deputies (Burien PD officers) and local fire/medic personnel responded to the scene. The male was pronounced dead at the scene. The King County Medical Examiner’s Office (KCMEO) sent an investigator to the scene to assist in the investigation and take possession of the body. There was no indication of foul play in this death during the initial investigation. The KCMEO will publicize the decedent’s name, cause of death, and manner of death per their protocols.  The KCSO case number for this incident is C24026813."

Pizzeria 22 in Admiral District changing hands

Started in 2011 the popular Pizzeria 22 is changing hands. Founder Cary Kemp made the announcement on social media on Aug. 8.

Kemp wrote:

"It is with great excitement and a heavy heart that I announce the sale of my beloved restaurant, Pizzeria 22. I am grateful and so happy to inform you all that I am selling Pizzeria 22 to our former front of house and bar manager of 5 years, Brandi Pierce. Brandi has remained on our books over the years and is very excited to take over the reins at Pizzeria 22 as the new owner.

Swimmer Hailey Weiler wins in record time

Hailey Weiler of the Olympic View club in Normandy Park posted a record time and won three individual events at the Greater Seattle Summer Swim League's All-City meet that took place Tuesday at the Lakeridge pool in Renton.

Weiler won the girls age 15-18 50-yard freestyle in an All-City meet record time of 23.62 seconds.

Weiler also took first place in the 100 individual medley in 58.23 and captured the top spot in the 100 free in 51.25.

Weiler's efforts helped Olympic View take fifth place in the 16-team meet with 148 points as Normandy Park took third with 204.

Arbor Heights of West Seattle took 10th with 100 and Gregory Seahurst of Burien placed 12th with 82.

Seattle's Sand Point won with 324 points ahead of the 211 score of Innis Arden.

The All-City meet features 72 events including boys and girls races.
