Don Armeni Boat Ramp replacement project; Ramp closed Nov. 7 for float removal
Newly designed and built replacements should be back early in 2025

For safety reasons, the contractor for the Don Armeni Boat Ramp Replacement project, Bellingham Marine Industries (BMI), will remove all the concrete floats except those connected to the abutment on both the north and south side at Don Armeni Boat Ramp on Thursday, November 7, 2024.  The boat ramp opened in March 2024 and over the past 8 months the hinges between the floats have been failing and the concrete on the floats is spalling and cracking.

Election 2024: Results

The first results are in from King County Elections and they offer few surprises. This is the first set of results. The next set will be released on Wednesday after 4:30pm

In Washington state's general election, Democratic candidates maintained their strong hold on both statewide offices and Seattle-area legislative districts, with particularly decisive victories in West Seattle's 34th Legislative District.

In the presidential race, Vice President Kamala Harris led decisively in the state with 74.75% of the vote, while former President Donald Trump received 22.29%. Third-party candidates collectively garnered less than 3% of the vote.

Astra Lumina is back in West Seattle; Artfui light and sound show is a bit like science fiction

The nightwalk, light and audio experience called Astra Lumina is back in West Seattle after it's local debut here last year. It's presented on the grounds of the Seattle Chinese Garden at South Seattle College. It officially opened Oct. 17 but now that daylight savings time is here, it's more fully experienced after dark. It does involve walking, up and down hills so dress warmly and wear the right shoes.

Dec 5th - Shop Late with Santa's Elves, Live Music with The Silver Belles and Better Than Brass playing holiday favorites plus it's the first Thursday of the month so you can join one of the participating merchants for West Seattle Book Club

Dec 7th – Holiday Festival including a Night Market, Tree Lighting, Pet Costume Contest, Entertainers, Live Music, Santa, Metropolitan Singers, Beer Garden and more on SW Alaska St between 42nd and California Ave SW, including Junction Plaza Park

Dec 10th-14th - Selfies in Santa Land at Curious Kids Stuff noon - 5pm

UPDATE: Winds take out power on Nov. 4; Now resolved

Power has been restored and while the wind did reach gusts of 32 MPH earlier they are now tapering off.

Winds came up powerfully as a storm blew into the Seattle area on Nov. 4. 223 Seattle City Light customers were with out power as of 10:12 AM. Crews were dispatched.

The outage is south of Roxbury Street in White Center between 26th SW and 20th SW and extending down to 104th SW.

No time of restoration has been announced.

SAKA: Priorities for next budget include funding for Seattle Chinese Garden, safety improvements on Delridge Way and more

 

Seattle City Councilmember Rob Saka has announced his priorities for the 2025-26 biennial budget, focusing on public safety improvements, community investments, and support for working families in District 1 and across the city.

Among the most significant public safety investments is $1.8 million for non-school zone speed cameras, including installations planned for Alki and Harbor Avenue, areas known for excessive noise and safety disturbances. While the funding has been secured, Saka noted that additional steps, including data collection and new implementing legislation, will be required before deployment can begin.
