Seattle Fire Department training facilty damaged in violent break in

Information from Seattle Police Blotter

#2025-70550/Southwest Precinct/First Watch:

At 8:03 am on Sunday, Officers responded to a burglary at the Seattle Fire Department (SFD) Joint Training Facility. SFD personnel arrived to find a SFD vehicle at the entrance and the vehicle entry gate heavily damaged.

It appeared that some time over night a portion of the fencing had been cut and entry made. Inside, a SFD vehicle was broken into and used to ram the door of of the engine bay where entry was gained.

An SFD ax was found on the ground near the bay. Three separate trailers on the property was also broken into, seemingly by use of the ax. The SFD vehicle was then used to ram through the entry gate for the suspect(s) to exit from the property.

There are some cameras present on the property and a link was provided to upload any footage.

At time of this report, it was unknown what property, if any, was taken.

USDA cuts to school meals and local farmers will hurt West Seattle kids— Here’s what we can do

By West Seattle Food Bank

For many children in West Seattle, school meals are not just a convenient option—they are a lifeline as their main source of nutrition. But the recent USDA cuts to school meal funding and local food purchasing programs will make it harder for thousands of students to get the nutrition they need, while also dealing a devastating financial blow to local farmers who relied on those programs.

On March 10, 2025, the USDA announced the immediate termination of the Local Food for Schools (LFS) program and the Local Food Purchase Assistance (LFPA) program, cutting over $1 billion that supported school meals and food banks. The now-canceled $660 million in LFS funding would have helped schools buy fresh, local food for students—but that money is gone.

Op-Ed: Increasing compensation for displaced businesses makes sense

House Bill 1733 passed with a unanimous vote; City of Seattle leaders need to step up

Jordan Crawley

Director of Policy and Operations | Alki Beach Academy

There are nearly seventy businesses and nonprofits awaiting displacement by Sound Transit’s West Seattle Link Extension project. The laws and policies surrounding the displacement of small businesses and nonprofits do far too little to ensure folks are able to successfully relocate and continue thriving post-displacement. Because of the tension around this issue, it is important I am clear from the beginning — I support the extension of light rail into West Seattle.
