Police Blotter: Man threatens neighbor; intoxicated man sings, fights; man stabbed with screwdriver; multiple beatings in Ballard; man hits woman with beer bottle

10:59 p.m. on October 10th. 8th block of NW 50th St
A man was arrested after making death threats against his neighbor. The victim said that he was smoking in his indoor porch area when he saw the suspect get out of a car. He said the suspect appeared to be intoxicated or high. He invited the suspect to come smoke with him since it was raining. The suspect said, “I would but I’d have to kill you.” The victim asked why he said that, and the suspect said that it was a joke. The suspect then came up to the victim and pulled out a folding knife. The victim became afraid and attempted to take the knife from the suspect. The victim punched the suspect to fend off an attack, and the suspect left without further incident. The victim then called police.
The responding officers contacted the suspect, and he willingly came out of his residence. He was arrested and read his rights, then taken to the North Precinct. The suspect stated that he had felt “belittled” in the past and wanted to prove that he was a man. He said that he did not blame the victim for any part of the incident.
The victim said that he had known his neighbor for over two years and they had never had any problems.
8:39 p.m. on October 8th. 84th block of Seaview Pl NW
On the evening of October 8th police responded to reports of a man trying to start a fight at Golden Gardens Park. The suspect was said to be an intoxicated white male with a two-inch-long knife.
One of the victims said that the suspect came up to her and her friends and tried to get them to sing along with him. He then asked for a beer. The victim said that the suspect smelled of alcohol, had trouble standing, and was slurring his words.
Another victim said that the suspect came up to him and his friends and started singing to them. He then asked the victim and his friends for a beer and when they said they didn’t have any, he became angry. The suspect pulled out his knife and opened the blade and told one of the victims that he was going to slit the victim’s throat. He swore at the group and threatened to kill all of them. The suspect then walked away.
The responding officers located the suspect, found a knife in his pocket, and identified him. One of the victims positively identified the suspect, and the suspect was arrested for making threats to kill. He continually protested that he had done nothing wrong.
12:30 a.m. on October 8th. 24th Ave NW and NW 77th St
A man called police to report that he was stabbed with a screwdriver. The victim said that he was sitting in his friend’s vehicle with the windows open and waiting for his brother when the suspect ran up and stabbed him in the nose. The victim then got out of the car and put the suspect in a headlock, but the suspect stabbed him in the ribs with the screwdriver. The victim head-butted the suspect in the teeth and the suspect ran away.
The victim was taken to Swedish Hospital in Ballard for treatment of his puncture wound. Witnesses identified the suspect and said that he had stabbed other people before.
10:45 p.m. on October 7th. 15th Ave NW and NW Market St
A man called police after witnessing an assault in a restaurant parking lot. The witness said that the victim was getting out of a car when the suspect ran up and started punching the victim in the head. The witness yelled at the suspect, who ran away.
The victim was left unconscious. He was treated at the scene. He told police that he could not remember what had happened and he did not know where he was.
The suspect was not found in the area. Another officer said that the suspect may have been involved in an earlier assault incident as well.
6:09 p.m. on October 7th. 30th block of NW 54th St
Bystanders called police after an injured man ran into a gym. Witnesses said that the man was bleeding and looked as though he had been attacked. A woman with a gun was said to be leaving the area.
The victim’s face and hands were bleeding. An off-duty nurse at the gym treated him until the fire department responded. The victim was visibly intoxicated and his speech was slurred. He told police that he had been drinking at a nearby bar. After he left the bar, a man and a woman came up and asked him for spare change. The victim told the suspects that he did not have any extra money. The suspects got into an argument and the male suspect punched the victim in the face. The victim said that he lost consciousness and woke up to find that his backpack was missing.
The victim said that he saw the suspects behind the gym near the bar. He said that he ran over and punched the male suspect. Both suspects then beat him again. He got away and ran into the gym for help. The suspects were not found in the area.
The victim was taken to Swedish Hospital in Ballard, where he became combative with staff and had to be restrained.
7:45 a.m. on October 6th. 1st block of NW Canal St
A transient woman was sitting in a park shelter when another transient came up and attempted to leave his belongings there. The victim told him that he could not and the suspect became angry. He hit the victim on the head with a beer bottle and cut her cheek with a knife. He then fled the scene.
A witness to the incident confirmed the victim’s story and said that he heard the suspect swearing at the victim. The suspect was not found in the area.
The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment. A computer check determined that she had been reported as a missing person.
