Ballard High School will be playing their next game today against Newport at home, 3:45 p.m. at Whitman Middle School. On Wednesday, April 24, at 3:30 p.m., they'll face Garfield at Garfield High School.
Ballard Eeks Out Win against Redmond, April 15
Ballard held on to beat Redmond last Monday 4-3. Joe Jacobson started on the mound and pitched 6 innings and gave up only 4 hits. Sophomore Alex Livengood came in to close the game in the 7th and earned the victory as the Beavers came from behind scoring 2 runs in the final inning. Senior second baseman Alex Stamey was awarded the player of the game honor for his defense and for going 2 for 2 at the plate with 1 RBI.
The Player of the Game goes to Senior two-sacker Alex Stamey, who continued his torrid return from a broken hamate bone with a 2-2, 1-RBI performance. Nice work, Alex!
Beavers complete sweep against Roosevelt, April 17
The Roosevelt Roughriders' losing streak continues and the seniors on this team can say they never lost to their cross-town rivals. Ballard took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning but it was player of the game, Ryan Kangas that put his stamp on the series by blasting a 3-run bomb over the right field fence in the 4th inning at Lower Woodland Park. Senior Carl Pearson started the game and pitched 4 strong innings. Seniors Dash Sklenar, Chris Kahn and Robbie Dunbar each came in for an inning for the 6-1 victory.
Player of the Game goes to senior third-sacker Ryan Kangas, who reached base all four plate appearances, going 3-3 with the game-breaking home run in the 4th, scoring 3 runs while knocking in 3. Congratulations, Ryan!
Beavers State Rankings!
The two polls for Washington State High School Baseball both have the Ballard High School Beavers ranked in the state's top tier of teams in 4A Baseball! Though the Washington State Baseball Poll has The Beavers ranked #8 as of April 21, the Internet-based MaxPreps.com has the Ballard Beavers ranked #4 in state. The Beavers are holding on to 2nd place in the Crown Division behind the leader Skyline. The Spartans are ranked ahead of Ballard by one spot in both polls, 7th and 3rd, respectively. The regular season will wrap up with 4 games remaining and its finale will take place at Skyline April 29th.
