Tractor Tavern Features Young Seattle Songwriter and Collection of Strong Regional Talent
Wed, 09/17/2014
Jasper T. returns from a Mid\West Tour, playing 18 shows across the Mountain Region and Midwest, to finish with a headlining show at Seattle’s historic Tractor Tavern on September 21st. The show will be a special 2nd album release and feature many local talents including longtime singer Christie McWilson, quena player and producer Diego Coy, hip-hop artist John Crown, a special featured guest artist, and Jasper’s full band playing among horn arrangements and a string quartet. The bill also features touring songwriters Charles Ellsworth, Vincent Draper and Shadow Puppet. Hailing from Salt Lake City, the trio consists of Utah’s most prominent young songwriters on the scene today.
Jasper T.’s touring was in support of his second album, The Sweet Dark Pt. II, released independently on August 12th. That album’s predecessor, Jasper T.’s debut The Sweet Dark Pt. I, led to opportunities including headlining Seattle club Barboza; opening for the likes of Big KRIT and Elk and Boar; a 7 – date West Coast tour; and playing for travelers at Sea-Tac International Airport as part of the Experience the City of Music Program.
Jasper T. describes his music as “acoustic folk that bumps,” fitting for someone who names OutKast and Lynyrd Skynyrd as his favorite artists. The Sweet Dark Pt. II spans upbeat country-tinged pop (“Pretty Little Thing”), experiments in looping (“Ride the Beat”), and rap/acoustic pairings with lead single “Broken Singer’s Blues 2.0,” featuring rapper and frequent collaborator John Crown with production by 2010 Red Bull Big Tune national finalist Trox. The upcoming single from this album, Different Pages, features Seattle-Great Lotte Kestner, and is almost an electronic bluegrass-based ballad that moves both the feet and the soul.
For every 500 views of the “Broken Singer’s Blues 2.0” video, Jasper T. is donating a master class to Boys & Girls Clubs around the Puget Sound area. Jasper T. is dedicated to teaching music to underprivileged youth because “sharing music doesn’t just include performing- if you have a talent it’s a responsibility to teach it.” On his last two tours Jasper T. taught at homeless youth shelters in both Los Angeles and Chicago.
