West Seattle's Marty Riemer and family featured on HGTV House Hunters after move to Germany
Tue, 04/03/2018
West Seattle's Marty Riemer took a leap last summer and moved his family to Berlin Germany. Riemer, well known in Seattle for his time on the radio with The Mountain 103.7 FM (since changed formats) and more recently with 95.7 FM the Jet figured out how to keep his morning drive announcing job going by doing it in the afternoon from his new home. Riemer, his wife Karrie and two children picked up stakes (though kept their West Seattle home) and traveled to Berlin and subsequently took numerous side trips to other European cities expanding their entire family's horizons. In the process he heard about House Hunters International, a show on HGTV that has produced an episode about the family's move. The episode debuts April 10 (and airs again April 11).

Riemer described his move. "As a German/American citizen married to a Spanish teacher with two kids that are both dual citizens we've always dreamed of living abroad. U.S. Politics being as they are right now, we figured why not drop a line in the water and apply our kids to a very unique, historic German-American school in Berlin. They got accepted ... and then things got scary real.
Most notably I had to tell my employer that I would be leaving in August (2017). Surprisingly, instead of saying good riddance - which any sane employer would have - they said, hey, let's have you do the show from over there. At the same time, Karrie, my wife, got in touch with a friend of a friend who had just made the move from Colorado to Berlin (because everyone's doing it).
She was trying to glean some intel on how to make such a big move work, as neither one of us had ever lived outside of Western Washington. In the course of their back and forth the friend of a friend said, hey, I just read that House Hunters International is looking for families moving to Europe that need to find a place to live, maybe you guys should apply. So we did. We sent a video telling our story and they took us on.
The HHI story starts as I am saying goodbye to my on-air compatriots in Seattle and then off to Berlin to try to find a place that is close to the kid's school, technically advanced enough to allow for a daily live intercontinental broadcast, and enough room for a family of four."

How nice for Marty and his family that they got to skirt justice, killing trees just for their view and more $$ and now they get to go on TV and have a lovely life. Spare me. Keep yourselves in Germany. Glad I don't listen to his broadcasts anymore.

I don’t know Marty and family, but they seemed like lovely people on HHI. I may have to check out his program...and I live in Alabama. Good luck in Germany Marty and family.

They illegally cut down all those trees in West Seattle just to improve their views. Then they had to pay the city thousands for their evil deed and now they get to be celebrities abroad? What a couple of losers.
Marty Reimer may keep his house in West Seattle, but paid $440,000 to settle a lawsuit the City of Seattle brought against homeowners in connection with the cutting of city-owned trees in West Seattle. Stanley and Mary Harrelson and Marty and Karrie Riemer together paid $440,000 to settle the lawsuit in which they were named.
