Joint statement on pandemic from the Mayors of Auburn, Kent, Renton, Federal Way, Tukwila, Enumclaw, Algona and Pacific
Mon, 03/23/2020
As the results of COVID-19 become clearer there is no denying that it is both dangerous and deadly. The number of those diagnosed and those dying from it continues to climb at an alarming rate, especially in our region.
The Governor is evaluating next steps, as are we. As your local elected officials, we may take additional steps to protect our communities and mandate those best practices issued by health professionals are followed. The most imperative practice to reduce the spread of this virus is to stay home and avoid contact with others.
We strongly urge our residents follow those best practices to prevent additional measures from being enacted. If these best practices are not followed, we will need to take further action.
You can follow these best practices by:
- • Staying home unless necessary and avoiding nonessential outings
- • Only visiting stores for necessary purchases
- • Only purchasing reasonable amounts of basic products and leaving enough in the stores for others
- • Avoiding gathering in groups, even when outside in open air
The CDC, State Department of Health and King County Public Health have issued clear guidance on best practices for social distancing. They have closed gathering spots such as large events, bars and restaurants, rightfully so. Yet, residents and visitors to our communities are still not fully recognizing those best practices.
We can stop the COVID-19 virus from spreading but only with your help and full cooperation. This is a virus that is taking lives of people in our communities we all love and care about – we all have a role to play in stopping this.
We continue to support the Governor’s directives and urge you to review them by visiting King County Public Health’s website.
Thank you for your assistance and understanding. We are strong and resilient communities and with your help we will beat this.
Mayor Nancy Backus, Mayor Dana Ralph, Mayor Armondo Pavone, Mayor Jim Ferrell, Mayor Allan Ekberg, Mayor Jan Molinaro, Mayor Dave Hill and Mayor Leanne Guier

So many mayors, so little…
So many mayors, so little leadership. Strong urges and no directives. Now we wait and hope the sick don't overwhelm the medical system. Wuhan/Italy style.
Something is going on…
Something is going on besides what we are being told. This is rediculous. The numbers and the mainstream narrative does not add up at all.
Boeing has shut down all…
Boeing has shut down all plants and operations. Announced to employees today.
You are correct something is…
You are correct something is going on that they dont want us to know of all the diseases we have went through in the recent past this one doesnt even begin to add up it has been stayed on CNN 80 % of the cases are A-sympatamatic and once you get it once you can not get it again it doesnt even compare to the death tolls of the swine flu or countless others and never in history have our government reacted to any threat in such an extreme fashion and now they are threatening martial law this is ridiculous the numbers just dont add up you have a greater chance of going outside and bieng killed in a drive by or mass shooting than you do from dying from this virus or even getting very sick so what gives this is not Russia or China and you can not take our lives away from us for your political gain. Not all of us are week minded enough to be buffaloed by your media hype.
So many dem's giving into…
So many dem's giving into fear-mongering and destroying the economy because of the hatred for one person. Stop hurting everyone for your agenda!
Leadership talks about good…
Leadership talks about good practice and yet, 7-Eleven still does a self service food where people are breathing and coughing? So much for making this a good practice.
If all non-essential work is…
If all non-essential work is supposed to stop, why is construction still going at the assisted living facility, 312th Ave S FedWay?
If you are serious about stopping the spread of the virus. YOU our elected officials need to plead to the governor to close Boeing.. Boeing is not doing what they say with their supposed deep cleaning and they even combined all shifts into one in Auburn.. we are basically working on top of each other..it’s only a matter of time before it’s to the point that a shut down won’t work.. be smart don’t be Italy. Take initiative and do what’s right.
