A charity golf tournament, The Don Bereiter Classic that was held on Sept 10 raised $20,000 for the West Seattle Food Bank.
The tournament, held at the West Seattle Golf Course honored Don Bereiter who passed away from cancer last summer. 40 golfers took part in the event. "Don was a beloved figure in the West Seattle real estate world and was a mentor to many brokers over the years. He was very easy to be around and his kindness, knowledge, and quick wit were always on display,” said Michael Mallagh of Windermere and co-sponsor of the tournament. Bereiter had a long career in real estate and was the branch manager at Windermere in the West Seattle Junction.
Larry Johnson, Co-owner of Windermere said of Bereiter, "Don Bereiter gave big! He always had a ready smile. He was always there to help his brokers, from the greenest new agent to the most experienced. Don loved his job. He was never the type to go through the motions. The way he showed up to work was a testament to his commitment to the organization that he led, and more importantly to the brokers he served. It wasn’t about clocking in and clocking out. Don was dedicated to helping brokers improve professionally as well as personally. It is rare in life to find a career that you are good at and enjoy as much as he did. He looked forward to coming to work every day, and it showed. His dedication and influence touched hundreds of brokers over the course of his 18 years of service.
Don was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in January of 2020. He passed away on July 26th, 2020. He was a wonderful friend, an extraordinary father, a loving husband, companion and partner to his wife, Marion. He was a mentor, teacher and leader to many in the real estate industry. To say he will be missed is an understatement.
Don will be remembered by family, friends and coworkers for so many reasons. His values and his lessons will resonate for years to come. He was kind, generous, and wise… a winning combination. A wonderful human. Rest in Peace, Mr. Bereiter. We love you."
