LAKEWOOD - Highline High School coach Scott Babcock will be watching his No. 1 boys doubles tennis team at the state tournament on May 25-26 as a result of concluding action at the Class 3A West Central/Southwest bi-district tournament on May 19 at Clover Park High School and the Lakewood Racquet Club.
Bao Vu and Kyle Swain will go to state as the No. 5 seed from bi-district after dropping a 6-4, 7-5, verdict to Jones and Jones of Columbia River.
The Pirate pair began the tournament with a state qualifying 3-6, 7-5, 6-4, marathon win against Riches and Potapov of Wilson. each shot was hotly contested in the excruciating affair as each duo tried to chase down every ball that was hit.
Yanello and Richardson of Lakes sent them into the third-fifth match by defeating the Pirates, 6-0, 6-1, in the winners bracket semifinals.
Blake Henley and Jennalee Gould returned to state with a girls doubles 6-0, 7-5, win against Hazen's Korai and Standberg.
