SPANAWAY - Sparse run-scoring at the Class 3A West Central III/Southwest II bi-district fastpitch softball tournament on the Sprinker Recreation fields closed out the Kennedy Catholic 2012 season on the morning of Saturday,May 19.
Bonney Lake eliminated the Lancers 4-1 with each team managing only four hits, but capitalizing on errors in the field.
The prowling Panthers took a quick 1-0 first inning lead and maintained this margin until the Lancers posted a lone tally in the bottom of the fifth inning. Bonney Lake then bounced back with a two-spot in the sixth inning plus a final tally in the seventh.
Even with runners on base, the fighting Lancers were unable to deliver key hits to chase runners home.
In Friday's opener, Kennedy Catholic was shackled even more tightly in a 7-0 shut out loss to Greater St. Helen's League Prairie.
Prairie's Falcons winged to a 4-0 first inning lead and never looked back as the Lancers delivered only three hits for the game.
Wilson of Tacoma won its first 3A bi-district title with a 7-4 victory over No. 7 Camas. Camas beat Enumclaw 8-3 in one semifinal while Wilson edged No. 8 Peninsula, 3-2, in another semifinal. All four teams advance to state along with Bonney Lake and Mountain View of Vancouver.
