High schools
Girls basketball
West Seattle opens state Class 3A tournament play in the Tacoma Dome at 2 p.m. Thursday against Lynnwood.
The eight-team tournament will run through Saturday.
Boys basketball
Kennedy Catholic of Burien is playing on the boys side at the Tacoma Dome starting Thursday, taking on Garfield in a 5:30 p.m. Class 3A game.
Two area teams are participating in the boys Class 1B tournament at the Spokane Arena.
Seattle Lutheran battles Cusick in 3:45 p.m. action Thursday and Shorewood Christian opens with Curlew at 9 p.m.
Seattle Lutheran is from West Seattle and Shorewood Christian from White Center.
Spring sports
Spring sports practices got underway Monday and action does not begin until 10 practices are reached at the end of next week.
Pro and college
Pac-12 women
Four area graduates are participating in the Pac-12 women's basketball tournament being held at Seattle's KeyArena Thursday through Sunday.
Two of them -- Kennedy Catholic graduate Aminah Williams and Seattle Christian graduate Katie Collier -- are playing for the University of Washington, while Mount Rainier graduate Brittany McPhee is with Stanford and Seattle Christian graduate Lexi Peterson with Oregon.
The UW opens against Utah at 8:30 p.m. Thursday and Oregon opens against Washington State University at 11:30 a.m. Thursday.
Stanford waits until 2 p.m. Friday to play the UCLA/Arizona winner.
If the Huskies win their first game they will play their second game at 8:30 p.m. Friday.
The single-elimination tournament involving all 12 teams from the conference runs through the 6 p.m. championship Sunday.
Semifinals are at 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Saturday.
The Pac-12 networks will carry all of the action except the championship, which will be on ESPN.
Mariners
Seattle opens its spring training schedule with a 12:05 p.m. game Wednesday in Peoria, Ariz. against the San Diego Padres.
It will be shown on ROOT sports cable television.
strong>Thunderbirds
Seattle is in Portland for 7 p.m. action against the Winterhawks this Friday.
Husky men
The University of Washington wraps up its Pac-12 regular season this week, playing Colorado in a 6 p.m. home game Thursday and Utah in a 1:30 p.m. home game Saturday.
Fox Sports 1 will show the Colorado game and the Pac-12 network the Utah game.
Cougar men
Washington State University hosts Utah for 6 p.m. action in Pullman on Thursday before entertaining Colorado at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
ESPNU is showing Thursday's game and Saturday's can be seen on the Pac-12 networks.
Redhawks women
Seattle University entertains Grand Canyon in a 4 p.m. game Saturday.
Redhawks men
Seattle University visits Grand Canyon for 6 p.m. action Saturday.
