Two apparent arson fires were set at Highline High School in Burien on Monday. The fires were set several hours apart in different rest rooms. No one was hurt. The incidents are being investigated the the King County Sheriff's Fire Investigation team who will release details when available.
Highline's Principal Vicki Fisher sent out an email to parents to inform them of the situation. It reads:
"This morning a student reported smoke coming from a bathroom. Students were immediately evacuated while the fire department extinguished the fire and investigated. About 20 minutes later, students were given the all clear to return to class.
A second, separate bathroom fire was discovered later in the morning and students were again evacuated.
The police are now investigating.
We want you to know that we take fires very seriously. We work to ensure that students feel safe and are safe at school. I commend the student who reported the fire and ask that anyone with knowledge of who may have set the fires contact me promptly. We always encourage students to report any safety concern they may have.
If you have questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at 206-631-6700.
