Two bicyclists in their 60s, one male and one female, were riding near the intersection of Delridge Way and Willow St when a man approached them and pulled out a small black gun. The suspect said, “Give me your stuff,” and the woman threw him her fanny pack containing her driver’s license, cell phone and $80. The victims rode their bikes to the nearby Southwest Precinct to report the crime and described the suspect as a Hispanic male in his 20s, 5’8” with dark short hair, bloodshot eyes, clean shaven and possibly missing teeth. The suspect was wearing a black doo rag, black t-shirt, black jeans and black shoes at the time of the crime, which occurred on July 27 around 3 p.m. The female told police she was concerned the robbery suspect had her ID with her current address on it and police told her to lock her doors and report any suspicious activity.
On Aug. 2 a woman living on 31st Ave SW came home after a long day at work and fell asleep on the couch. After taking an hour long nap she noticed the window was wide open, the closet doors were off their hinge and her purse had been gone through. She did not call 911 at that time, but five days later, on Aug. 7, she returned home from work and discovered her pocket calendar, which she told police had been stolen from her purse days earlier, sitting open on her office desk. The woman told police she believes her ex-fiancé is responsible for the theft and he left the calendar out as a “message.” After inspecting the windows and doors investigators told the woman the only way someone could have entered her house was with a key.
A woman on vacation for two weeks returned to her 18th Ave SW home on Aug. 7. She first noticed a northeast corner window open, then saw several drawers ajar. The unknown suspect rooted through the house but stole only gold jewelry. Police were able to lift a few fingerprints from the window and submitted them for evidence. According to police, gold is a preferred burglar target because there are gold shops that do not require identification in order to pawn the precious metal for cash.
