West Seattle and Chief Sealth took the field Thursday March 15th for a metro league boys soccer matchup at Southwest Athletic Complex across from Chief Sealth. West Seattle is coming off of a big loss from their season opener, losing to Ingraham 11-0. Chief Sealth would prove to be very hard competition as they win big with a 10-0 shutout.
Chief Sealth’s offense kept the ball on West Seattle’s side most of the game, keeping the Wildcats freshman goal keeper Liam Dennehy very busy. Dennehy blocked nine shots for the game. Chief Sealth outshot West Seattle by a massive 28-0, with most of their goals coming from deflected shots from players in the box.
Scoring was distributed throughout the Seahawks evenly with eight separate players scoring their nine goals. Senior forward Aden Fidow scored two goals for the Seahawks.
Chief Sealth head coach Ron Johnson was pleased with the outcome of the game “were getting better, it’s still very early in the season so I can’t say too much yet, but we did a great job on maintaining possession “. The Seahawks big factor for their victory was following their shots that were deflected allowing them to score when the goalie was out of position. “We’ve been preaching to them to follow shots, a lot of times the goal keeper will fumble the ball, and we have to follow the ball and finish”.
Both teams next game will be on Tuesday March 20th when Chief Sealth hosts Franklin, and West Seattle takes on Cleveland at home.
