After the amazing murals that helped transform the White Center community were done during the Spring Clean event on May 19 there was one left to do.

White Center Chamber of Commerce President Mark Ufkes had a vision to have dozens decorate the community but they don't happen all at once. The big one not completed that Saturday was the one on the north wall of the Saar's Super Saver Foods on 16th s.w.

Ray Zombro, Workbased Learning Coordinator and Amanda Schmidt Visual Arts Instructor on the Evergreen Campus took it to the art students and others there to put together a design that would work on that wall.
While many students are taking part after school, "the heart of it is about 8 students from the art club," said Schmidt, " but we've had offers from others at the school."

The design contains 8 figures,"each one is supposed to represent a person from the different cultures and/or ethnic backgrounds here. The kids really wanted to represent the diversity in White Center," said Schmidt. They did the design on paper, using a simple grid, then measured out the space on the wall with a similar but larger grid to match proportions in the final mural.

Zombro got approval from store owner Greg Saar via manager Ron Bond to paint the mural which when completed, will be about 100 feet long. "Due to the rapidly approaching end of the school year and iffy weather, we may have to complete it next fall," said Zombro.

The paint came from the left over paint Ufkes had from all the previous mural projects.
