West Seattle's Grindline wins both Roxhill and Judkins Skatespot bids: Construction to start Sept. 10
Wed, 09/05/2012
Seattle Parks and Recreation announced today that it has awarded the construction contract for the Roxhill and Judkins skatespots to West Seattle based Grindline Inc. Grindline will begin construction on September 10, 2012 on both projects. Grindline, whom the West Seattle Herald profiled last year during their construction of the Delridge Skatepark began here in the 1990's as a group of friends.
The Roxhill project also includes the renovation of the play area. The play area at Roxhill will close when skatespot construction begins on Monday. The Roxhill Skatespot and play area is located at 2850 s.w. Roxbury at the corner of s.w. Barton and 29th Ave. s.w.
The Judkins Skatespot is located in South Seattle at 2100 South Judkins Street.
Leathers Associates will serve as the Roxhill play area renovation consultants. Leathers is securing the supplies for the new play area and will guide the community in building the play area. Construction for the play area will happen fairly fast and is set to begin in late October with completion expected in late November.
According to a parks press release:
"Both these skatespot projects were designated in the Citywide Skatepark Plan. A skatespot is smaller than a full skatepark, but large enough to incorporate multiple skateboarding features. For more information on Seattle Skatepark planning please visit http://www.seattle.gov/parks/projects/skatepark.htm
Both projects are funded by the Parks and Green Spaces Levy that Seattle voters passed by a 59% vote in November 2008. The $146 million Levy provides acquisition funding for new neighborhood parks and green spaces and development funding for projects such as improved playfields, reservoir lid parks, renovated playgrounds, community gardens, and safety upgrades at city owned cultural facilities."
